Spraetz says Candy’s rocking back and forth is a sign of boredom and stress, caused by her isolation and the noise of amusement rides nearby.
Breaux continues visiting Candy, going on a service road behind her cage, where she calls the chimpanzee’s name. “She comes to the edge and puts her arm out,” Breaux says. “It’s gut-wrenching.”

Poor chimp is living in isolated hell. Concrete floor and a blanket. She should be sent to a sanctuary or zoo or something else.

Man, that poor chimpanzee is still alive? I remember feeling bad for it like 20 years ago.

It's sad, with the possibility of dying in captivity.

Yea I always thought it was a little fricked up even when I was a kid. Hopefully she is moved to a better environment to spend the rest of her life

I'm not a Liberal, nor against proper ownership like Tippy Hedren's Shambala Preserve..
But, that Tiger Cafe cage across the river in Gross Tete, and the monkey at Dixie, to live in small quarters and isolated, is just wrong. The older I get the stronger my former indifference feels on this matter.
The LSU habitat is of more medium scale, expensive in amenities, and the finances for proper feeding and medical are unlimited.
How much did the lady falling to death out of the Might Mouse or whatever cost their insurance years ago?

Chimps are too much like us to be dealt, what is basically torture and prison. Its an animal that needs and thrives on interaction.
I'm not a PETA type either.

There's an Obama joke here.
I'll refrain.

Is that why that ride was shut down? I can remember going to fun fair park in the 80s and all the rides were in operation except that one.
ETA: And I cannot believe that poor chimp is still locked up like that. Seems like she should have been given to some wildlife preserve someplace YEARS ago.

Candy was smoking Marlboro Reds in 1973. I know because I use to give them to her.
And the Wild Mouse was a wooden roller coaster that I rode one time in the 5th grade and it scared the shite out of me. I stuck to Skee Ball after that.
Many birthday parties there with the little cardboard cups of Borden Ice Cream and a wooden spoon.

Yeah I remember there was a monkey that smoked at the Baton Rouge zoo back in the mid 70's.

I fondly remember having ice cream cups with wooden spoons at birthday parties there in the 90's
