Wendy's has had the $5 Biggie Bag for several years. I moved back from overseas a couple years ago and was surprised how expensive other fast food had gotten. $5 bags and $1 annual frostie cards for the win! Wendy's has become our go to fast food option.

BK sends monthly coupons in the mail that are also sub $6 for a combo.

Took my family out to Mexican yesterday and it would have been cheaper to drive to the border and find a few to cook it for me.

Actually for me. Mexican restaurants are about the only ones staying reasonably priced... But we got soooo many in Oklahoma it's about as bad as Pot Shops.

And now that it has happened why would anyone eat fast food over casual dining?

Use deals on the app and it’s still dirt cheap

Most of the appeal of fast food is the price. If a McDonald's combo meal is going to cost as much as a burger at a sit-down joint, I'm going there instead. Or, I'm taking the best option, which is to eat at home.

It's the convenience these days. Cheaper to go to the grocery store.

I've read that franchise owners say the price is not sustainable long term without a contribution from corporate.

buried in the details is it's not "sustainable" if they want to maintain current margins. They all got used to fatter and fatter (pun intended) margins and don't want to give that up.

Yep.

McDonald's increase in revenue since 2020 outpaces the rate of inflation by a fair amount. They decided to see how high they could push prices to maximize their profits. Fast-forward to 2024, and their growth rate is crashing because they overplayed their hand and priced out their core consumers....poor folks. NOW they're suddenly worried about keeping prices reasonable for consumers.

I suspect (hope) we're going to start seeing a lot more of this as the market corrects itself.

Yes their 5 dollar meals will consist of a kids meal sized burger, small fry, and a small drink.

You just assume order a kids meal at least you get a free toy too.

I’d rather go to BK or McD than spend $100 for a family of four at some disgusting Mexican restaurant

Fast food joints are in a squeeze because they now have to pay expendable labor an unreasonable wage, and nobody wants to pay $8 for a fast food burger.

Automate, automate, automate

I’ve never more sympathy for my college son, whose home for the summer, when he came home after a night out with friends and sat eating his $17 dollar Taco Bell.. I would’ve had bags of tacos and mexi melts and this fricker had a combo and maybe an extra taco or 2..

Hit the buffets to get the most bang for your buck. Eat so much you don’t have to eat the rest of the day or starve yourself the full day and go to the buffet for supper.

Not really. They're making more profit than they ever have. They're just manipulating the market and using that as a dog whistle.
