Did fast food jump the shark? $5 value meals are back as demand slows due to high prices

Burger King is set to launch its own $5 meal deal, a company spokesperson said on Thursday, at a time when its rival McDonald’s
is also planning to launch a similar meal deal.
“We are bringing back our $5 ‘Your Way Meal’ as agreed upon with our franchisees back in April,” the spokesperson said.
U.S. fast food chains are in a tussle to attract customers at a time when cost-of-living crisis has forced them to eat more meals at home, prompting companies to turn their focus on offering better promotions and deals to improve traffic.

"Bringing them back" at a 25% increase form back when they were $4 meals. Thanks Joe

Eating out is an elastic demand based on the costs of the food or of the shopping tastes of the woman involved.
Things get to expensive and it goes to the curb.

fast food became the same price as causal sit down restaurants, how tf did that happen

Casual sit down has gotten expensive as frick.
Took my family out to Mexican yesterday and it would have been cheaper to drive to the border and find a few to cook it for me.

Fast food will never jump the shark IF it’s somewhat affordable.

More shrinkflation would be my guess. A Burger King cheeseburger is now the size of a woman's fist.

The amount of food you get is gonna be smaller.

But why? The economy is the best it’s ever been. And why does Target feel the need to lower prices too? McDs & Target must not be doing things right bc the rest of the country is thriving.

Putting the woman's fist in my mouth while in public is frowned upon though.

Food prices are unreal. Mexican for a family of 5, all 3 kids eat off the kids menu is $100.
Buffalo wild wings was $125

I'd rather light $10 on fire than buy shite disgusting McDonalds or Burger King

And every fast food place around has a drive thru line 10 cars deep. Crazy...
I've been cooking at home more than ever. Better and healthier food.

Was it more of an upscale place? We've got a couple of mexican joints here that are your typical fast causal sit downs and it was only a few dollars more than our taco bell order we got.
Now we do have a nicer spot run by white people that does craft tacos and that place keeps jacking their rates. it's 11.83 (after tax) for a 12 ounce margarita, the tacos are like 4.50 a piece and the plates usual run for $20.00+ per entrée.
but the mexicans running their stuff are still way cheaper and we've been there so many times the staff always treats us like family. they'll come up and hangout with the baby even when they are not our server

I've read that franchise owners say the price is not sustainable long term without a contribution from corporate.

10 years ago, who would have thought that a $5 meal at Burger King would be considered a "value"?

Define “upscale”.
This is a local chain with a small number of locations but their menu has changed radically and prices spiked within the past 1-2 years.

You had to have tried it to make this discovery.

Most of the appeal of fast food is the price. If a McDonald's combo meal is going to cost as much as a burger at a sit-down joint, I'm going there instead. Or, I'm taking the best option, which is to eat at home.

Wife and I can't go hardly anywhere under $50 anymore.
