Agreed! Religion sucks.
Jesus butted heads with the religious of his day. His way is better.

There’s no such thing as objective morality, but there are actions that are generally not beneficial to society. Murder, theft, etc. The realization of that is no more divine than recognizing that an intoxicated person driving 100 mph on the highway is unsafe and that such behavior needs to be discouraged.
Why would you think murder & theft is bad though? Murder is only bad when morality enters the world? Why is someone driving 100mph unsafe? If someone dies who cares. Death is just another result of an action. Death to a human could be the same as killing an ant.
quote:
It’s all pretty simple. We can make up laws to govern ourselves without justification from a deity.
You don’t have laws without morality

I dont know how to explain certain aspects, but worship music really does uplift me, and I always feel comfortable in the cross. I never have understood if that is just something that is inherent, or if it really is power from something divine.

why the frick are you attaching quotes to me that I have not made

One of my ex gfs is currently using church to cover up her pill addiction. She got baptized a few months ago.
She has some people fooled with it mostly her dad.

quote:No judgment commenting I completely and totally loathe the new age praise and worship music in a lot of the feel good churches They're so popular in the past 20-30 years
I dont know how to explain certain aspects, but worship music really does uplift me,
And I was there for the beginning of it in my dad's church back in California when we moved back to Texas That Church Redeemer in Houston books have been written about days of fire and glory it I don't like it I don't like the ego performance aspect
And I especially do not like the praise and worship leaders that say that God is inspiring them
quote:
to sing one more verse!!!
if God wanted you to sing another verse he would have put it in the schedule at the beginning of the program he's God he knows what he intends to do

It’s been proven for thousands of years that God then specifically Jesus, can heal the unhealable.
No it hasn’t been proven. The whole pitch is that one must have faith.

There are people in every church every Sunday playing that game. God knows.

Yeah i know that. She was addicted to pills years ago (she tried stealing some pain meds I
had) but 'got clean'. She got into a bad accident and got addicted again. We became civil and we chat every so often. One of our last conversations (couple of months ago) she said that she lost her pills and didn't know what to do....then asked if I still got them. Sad.

People wonder why God allows bad things
That is a reason
He loves you more than he cares about you obeying commandments. Think about that.

How many pots have you smoked, baw?
Not enough to believe supernatural beings are running around the world granting favors to some people and sabotaging others.
quote:
Religion causes people to overthink things. We have a million laws regulating things that people who lived in biblical times couldn’t even fathom
quote:
Can you reword this so it doesn't seem contradictory? I'm not sure what you mean here.
It means there are countless laws, rules, etc., that are implemented every day that no one questions on the basis of religion.
Why can you not hold a basketball and run around the court with it? Why does Ms. Smith not allow her 4th grade students to get out of their seats without permission? Why does a person serve X years in prison for tax evasion?
No one questions these things on the basis of whether or not a deity exists. We recognize that we require structure, even if imperfect, to coexist and do things that are generally productive and satisfying to the masses.
Someone running around killing everyone with impunity is going to disrupt a lot of things. Having laws against it needs no more justification than that.
quote:
Why would you think murder & theft is bad though?
Why would a hotel that smells like feces be bad for business even though feces does not objectively smell good or bad?
Why is Livvy Dunne more popular on TikTok than 300+ lb. women even though beauty is not objective?
How does the Four Seasons get away with its high prices when it’s not objectively better than Motel 6?
Why have cultures that practiced cannibalism and human sacrifices and mass genocide existed if killing is innately wrong by our nature?
The answers have nothing to do with deities and everything to do with human perception and evolving societies.

Of course you do.

I remember atheists passing that around 10 years ago. Just never caught on

If I were to go back to church that would mean I had hit rock bottom because the only way that would happen is if my brain completely quit functioning. If you find yourself in need of a social support system, you will find yourself much better served by locating something inline with your personal interests that isn't based on self delusion.

I asked that question because no one understood your rambling wall of text, or what point you were trying to make.

I thank God I never hit rock bottom in any way...
But there are some clear moments in my life where I've seen God's work, and a good chunk of that is when I was distant but turned toward Him, however imperfectly.
Catholic as well.
Cheers to you.
