I am really thinking there should be a health board! I go to lafayette endoscopy too, but have never seen Dr. Noelle. I also see Dr. Carr who is in the same practice for severe GERD and a hiatal hernia. Good group of docs in there. I'll make sure and wave if I see you in their clinic too! ;)

LC, I am so sorry about your dad. My oncologist does want me on a low carb diet. That is easy for me as I have done low carb from when it first came out and was known as the bourbon & beef diet ;)

Right now my health is great except for trying to get the bile out of my body. I feel better then I did for the last 10 weeks.

Can you describe the symptoms you had in more detail. You mentioned back and rib pains

It was really odd. Had a colonoscopy and endoscopy because of stomach pains doctor who swore it was gastritis and I kept insisting my back was killing me and I thought it was not gastritis. Everything came out fine with both colonoscopy and endoscopy then two days later had white stools (sorry for being gross). Also noticed jaundice beginning. Called my doctor and next thing I know all kinds of tests and blood work. My bile ducts were clogged and the bile was backing up in my liver. The tumor was what was blocking the bile ducts.
No symptoms whatever prior to that. No one in my family ever had cancer.

My mother fought pancreatic cancer for a year and a half, be strong! There are those who have beaten it completely. But more importantly enjoy all the moments with your family. As stated before, do check into the Whipple procedure

lovelsu-I have been reading this thread. I think the MD Anderson decision is right for you. I have stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer and did a self referral to MDA in 2013. I am now 6 years into this and the cancer is incurable but being controlled. MDA will assign a case worker and thing should go smoothly. Try to stay at the Rotary House, the hotel attached to the MDA buildings. That might be hard to do on short notice. At the time I had BCBS in Georgia and it covered my charges at MDA.
If you want, be sure to visit the chapel on the ground floor of the main MDA building. And take time to look at the large framed picture on the wall in the hallway outside of the chapel.
Yes, please keep us posted.

I've always said that if I were ever to be diagnosed with terminal cancer I'd forego chemo and enjoy what time I had left, mainly because chemo is just so rough on a person. That being said, if someone told me that I had 6 months to live, I honestly can't imagine what that would be like. Make sure to live you life to the fullest and fight like hell, my friend.

I totally agree. Who's in charge of that? Chicken? Admins should definitely consider it.

Listen, when you get up to Maine, go out to Bar Harbor. One of the best places in this country. Absolutely stunning. Best crab cakes I've ever eaten.

Project Purple

Check out Project Purple. They are an organization that offers patient support for those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They also provide educational grants for research. I raise money for them through running (slow jogging ).

My dad was diagnosed nearly 5 years ago. He was diagnosed stage IV.

I send my prayers.

Grandmother is currently going through almost exactly what you're going through, complete with the diagnosis and bile duct port (?) all within the last week or so.

My opinion would to seek out a 2nd and even 3rd opinion. My MIL was first diagnosed with colon/rectal cancer Thanksgiving of 2009. She almost died her first night in the ER due to resulting infection. She lives in Austin, TX, and we were given very grim news from doctors saying they did not think she would make it a few months. She got past the infection, but doctors still did not think they could treat her cancer fully due to location and severity. She saw 2 different oncologist in Austin, both saying they couldnt do much but make her comfortable. She then went to MD Anderson where they were upbeat, and told her it will be hard, but possible to beat. She beat it then, had it come back a year and a half ago in a different location, then beat it once more. Her tumor has been shrunk so small it is non-identifiable on her last 6 PET scans. Had she stayed with the original Austin diagnosis, I do not think she would have made it this far, but throughout all of it, all she said is "I want to find a doctor that gives me a chance to see my grandkids grow up". She found that at MD Anderson, did her routine chemo back in Austin, with monthly checkups in Houston. She said it was hell, but our daughters and her other grandkids made it all worth it.

My advice would be to find your drive, and fight like hell!!! Prayers to you and your family that you all can find a gameplan that puts you all at peace, and that you can pull through it.

lovelsu,

Of all the medical advice you received here, likely the best physician advice you could hear is MD Anderson "as the place". My father went for heart issues and my mother who is hard to please, spoke gloriously of their treatment. Cleveland Clinic is another, but not sure of the Pancreatic part.

Paralax(?) gave you excellent advice relative to quality of life. MD Anderson will discuss this at length as part of your contact there.

Prayers to you and your family.

lovelsu,

SuwMwf's advice to you is sound. Each case stand's on it's own, but likely this will be true relative to tests.

I spent time at Washington University in St. Louis (specializes in renal cell carcinoma) and that was their preference...Barnes Jewish hospital.

If you have the time, I encourage you to read 'The China Study' by Dr. Campbell. It is eye opening in regards to how proper nutrition can fight and even reverse disease such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and of course, cancer.

Best of luck and I will pray for your healing.

Knowledge is power.

First off, you have my prayers. I lost my mom to cervical cancer. Secondly, I don't know your family situation, but I can tell you my mom fought even though she knew the outcome was grave. Her cancer moved and spread to her rib cage. She told me she did it for my grandmother and my brother and I. She had a year to live. That was with radiation and chemotherapy. she did radiation first and then started chemo. She did it as long as she could. She had her good days and bad. I supported her as much as I could. I can tell you that meant a lot to her and others that I have spoken to that fight cancer and have fought cancer.
