So glad to hear you are going to MD Anderson. I think you are making a great decision. Prayers to you, your family, and your doctors.

My cousin's wife lasted nearly 10 years after being diagnosed. It's not the norm, but it has happened.

I pray that your outcome will be similar. Good luck and fight like hell!

we don't get a lot of lady posters here...so if you can't tell by the username, we all just assume everyone to be a male.
a lot of folks on this site act like asshats, but folks here are generally very nice and supportive when they know someone is in a bind. also some damn smart folks here that are always willing to share info, if it will help.

Yes, there are some great posters on here. Long time lurker but don't post very often. Was a little hesitant to post this thread because I did not want anyone thinking I wanted a pity party. I really was looking for any good outcomes. When you look on the web it is just depressing!

I am 34 female from Lafayette and got my second opinion on uterine cancer at mda on October 7th. They are using a brand new system on cervical biopsies and I learned I had additional risk factor and negative prognostic indication. Pathology here in Lafayette had no experience with this. I respectfully declined treatment in Lafayette and am scheduled for surgery November 11th at mda. Hopefully curative. But for the next 5 years I will be followed and Pap smears will be analyzed quarterly. I need the best eyes and newest techniques to survive. Glad you are going to see mda. They are truley the best and if they say take trips and have fun then you know you have done your homework. Btw I had pancreatitis in September after a bile duct full of sludge which hurt in my back/ribs so bad I passed out. I was actually dx with uterine cancer while hospitalized post ercp. I was nervous the two were related. Supposedly they aren't. Waiting on PET results now. Good luck and prayers. I'll make sure and wave if I pass ya in the hallways. ??

Hi neighbor - I am from Crowley.
I am sorry to hear you are battling uterine cancer. Girl, I know what you are talking about with the back and ribs hurting, that was what was hurting so bad on me. But, it turned out to be a good thing as my doctor kept saying it was just gastritis and I kept insisting there was more to it because my back was hurting so bad.
My bile ducts were also blocked - did you have Dr. J.N.to open up your bile ducts? Love him. Wish he could be my oncologist.
I am going to get a second opinion at MD Anderson. I just hope I can have my chemo/radiation done here in Crowley and go to Houston for exams and clinicals.
I will be praying for a full and quick recovery for you. Please let me know how everything goes.

I have been monitoring this thread from the beginning, albeit intermittently.

Too late to bump the juicing comments, but I well tell you I have a friend with breast cancer which spread to her hip bone that did an extreme juicing regimen that resulted in a significant reduction in tumor size. She then did a round or two chemo with continuous drinking her greens that is now "cancer-free."

I went to lgmc for my clogged bile duct and my doctor was Eric Trawick. He did a great job clearing everything out and the pancreatitis was a known side effect. I was very likely to get it and had lots of dilaudid for 5 days with nothing but iv fluids. As you know the pancreas does not like to be poked at. I don't know a doctor with initials JN. You'd think I would, I have been to so many lately. Good for you for being persistent and I'm sorry you don't like your onc. Mine was fine, but like I said l didn't trust the pathology here. Everyone is amazing at mda. Plus you are only 3 hours away being in Crowley. They gave me a social worker who helped me figure out how to tell my young daughter. They suggested clinical trials for me and I agreed to one that maps my lymph nodes. My new gyn-onc is amazing and he has helped me to feel more positive. He calls me instead of having his nurse call, though this might be rare. I do not think you will have a problem getting BCBS to pay. If the web is down try calling. I think they are there 24 hours a day. Mda can try to get some basic radiation and chemotherapy done in your area, but my doctor at mda did mention that usually they like to do it there in Houston unless it's super basic. With the pancreas I'd assume mda has some specialized drugs they'd like to unleash on that nasty tumor. I hope you hear good news and get precious comfortable time if that's what you want. Praying for you. Keep in touch if you'd like radwilk AT gmail dot com

A friend of mine just passed away today from pancreatic cancer. He was stage 4, though.

I hope you make it through this.

Sorry to hear. I know we are ALL going to die anyway but fight it like hell.

Can you describe the symptoms you had in more detail. You mentioned back and rib pains.

My Dad passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2011. He thought that he had a gall bladder problem and put off talking to the doctor about the problems for several months. Because of the digestion problems, he was not eating much, maybe 250 calories a day and I think he had been doing this for some time previous to the diagnosis. He was diagnosed on early or mid November of 2010 and had the Whipple procedure just after Thanksgiving. He had the first round of Gemzar just before Christmas. I think because of his poor diet that he was weakened to the point where chemo was not the right way to proceed. Just after Christmas he went into the hospital for an E. coli infection.

If I was able to relive that time with my Dad, I would have asked him to consider alternative therapies instead of the chemo. For you, it depends on how you feel your strength is and what the doctors recommend. A couple of alternative health areas to consider are a no carbohydrate diet like the Atkins diet - the induction phase would be very important for you. I also read recently about two foods that may fight or prevent cancer - the combination of hot peppers and ginger and a type of vegetable from China called bitter melon. You may want to try these - with or without chemo. Bitter melon can be found in a good Chinese grocery store. You want to eat the skin - it tastes like poison at first but grows on you after a while. My wife fries it with a little pork, jalapeño peppers, and ginger.

So sorry to hear this. My mom was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer a year ago. Her prognosis is much like yours. Please do go to MD Anderson. She is actually considering another surgery there in November. She has been to Duke, University of Florida, MD Anderson, University of Alabama, Emory...all looking for options. Look for any clinical trials you can. Consider cannabis oil along with other treatments.
Make memories with your family. Take lots of pictures and videos. Write letters. Keep a journal of your journey.
I wish you the best. -hugs-

I will definitely email you - my roommate from college was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer back in July and she has been able to give me pointers on what to expect, websites and of course been my rock.
I had both Dr. Traywick and Dr. Jacque Noelle working on me at the same time. Dr. Noelle works in LGMC Endoscopy. Noelle had to get my bile ducts opened and input a stent (he tried the week before) and he could not get through because the tumor was blocking the bile ducts. He got through and then Traywick got the sample for the biopsy. I liked Traywick but just love Dr. Noelle. I called his office on Friday to ask him a few questions. He was off but his office paged him and he called me from his home and we spoke for almost 1/2 hour!
I will email you in the AM - start our own TD OT support group!

It took it a year and a half to kill my 81 year old grandfather. Throw everything you have into this fight. Look into alternative treatments. Say goodbye to sugar foods.

to the OP, can't add anything but prayers and words of encouragement to you. MDA is the call to make, can't stress that enough.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Now every time someone tells me of a loved one dying of PC it feels as if I lost a loved one too. Kind of hard to explain but that is how I feel.
