This is very far from a revolutionary concept. It is done well elsewhere in cities that have far more tourists.

Whats the point? What do these other cities have in common with the French Quaarter? What would be the reason to make the French Quarter "pedestrian only, no cars allowed"?

I understand the point for big events such as NYE, Mardi Gras, FQF, Essence, RDR... etc....but who and what does it benefit other times of the year?

There are already areas of the city that are permit only so this is just expanding on this. Offer a dozen or so access points into the FQ by permit only and use controlled access.

Fines/towing for people who find a way to beat the system.

Delivery drivers see little change.

Able to purchase daily passes (say $25/day) for contractors needing to do work.

Hotel guest can still drive in/out with a pass. Hotels maybe get a discount rate for passes that they add to the $50/day they are already charging.

Uber/Lyft/Cabs have either pickup points or designated route to pickup areas.

More tourist friendly. Safer. Less bullshite for the residents living there (what the residents believe).

That.

Again if you’ve ever been in one of these it’s pretty noticeable how much more enjoyable it is.

Don’t know if it’s feasible for the FQ.

I agree with keeping out the riff raft and the gawkers...but there's no way they will be able to enforce who comes in and out. The city has more important things to worry about.

Think about the city you're talking about....

One thing they can do is electronically. Sensors at every entrance that auto take a picture of every license plate. If you don’t have access permission you get a fine sent in the mail for an incredibly substantial amount.

There are other ways to do it.

Even London wasn't perfect when it started. Contracted out to a company that can profit and it would work.

In ten years of living in the Quarter, in a building we owned, I only once saw a criminal getting away on his bicycle. Pretty much always, there was a car waiting, sometimes facing the wrong way on a one way street.

I love the imagination...this is a city that cant even keep their crime cameras online...or red light/speed zone cameras working...

Are these electronic sensors at every entrance of the French Quarter taking pictures of every car entering and leaving going to generate some sort of revenue for the city?

oh ok,, so it's all about taxing and fining the visitors and residents even more...dont we have enough of that already?

Would rather see them start with restricting areas first, but that would probably be even more of a cluster than doing the whole thing.

This isn't Cantrell's plan either. It has been talked about and proposed off and on forever.

The last time I went to FQ for a week, I valeted my car with the boutique bed and breakfast and didn't see it again.

Cops found it parted out in Houston months later.

Nothing really.

Seems to have made a decent SWB hire. Time will tell.

Managed to get some more dollars towards NOLA that weren't coming before.

This actually seems like the type of community project shite she would be good at. The big stuff swamps her.

Did you see Johnny Whites is closing down for good? I spent a day there after Katrina hanging with the people there. I have some foot camcorder footage interviewing some of the people.

Yeah, heard they sold the building and shut it down. Was a done deal before the corona mess.

Still haven't seen any movement at Bordeaux, rotisserie is still missing. Shocked they aren't taking advantage and opening back up.
