STATE v. LEE
Here's a link to the court docs for anyone who wants to read it. The Kinamore portion is just unbelievably sad.

The body, which had been exposed to three days of summer heat, was initially unidentifiable. Only though the use of dental records was the body identified as being that of Pamela Piglia Kinamore.
An autopsy revealed that Kinamore had been strangled and three significant cut wounds, five and a-half, five, and four inches long, were evident in the neck. These neck wounds cut through the skin, the windpipe, below the larynx and the opening of the airway, and opened the right carotid artery and both jugular veins. A sexual assault kit was also utilized because there was physical evidence of forceful penetration of the vagina and the anus. Defensive injuries were seen on Kinamore's left hand, the right hand, the left elbow, the back of the forearm, the back of the arm, and the knees.
Vaginal swabbings were obtained during the autopsy and turned over to the Crime Lab for forensic analysis. Through scientific testing a DNA profile was procured. Although the profile did not produce a complete set of markers because of the body degradation, it was sufficiently extensive to genetically identify Kinamore's attacker as the same person who murdered Green and Pace.

As far as DTL, I knew someone who was a nurse at Angola that had a few interactions with him. She claimed the isolation had driven him insane (if he was ever sane to begin with), and he looked at every woman in the prison with pure hatred.
I couldn't find anything on motive. Did they basically just say that he hated women? Supposedly, he was a bit of a smooth talker but had this clear dark side to him. I couldn't find anything on motive in the court docs.

He basically bashed her head in, stabbed her 81 times and cut her throat so deep it damn near decapitated her. Unknown if he raped her before or after she lost consciousness/expired.

He got pretty popular around Zachary a few times as well. Police had him and due to a bunch of red tape and particulars had to let him go. He hung around neighborhoods close to the old Ambrosia.
I remember he attacked a boy/girl parked, making out one night in that graveyard. Luckily they got away but were pretty carved up. He attacked them with a machete if I recall.

You’ll find threads on here about him. Interesting ending is he died of heart issue at the hospital where a nurse worked that he’d killed.

I was working at the Tigerland Domino's Pizza during that time. It was like living in a Scream movie around LSU. Even with the constant police presence in the area I was always on edge delivering at night as their presence wasnt deterring him. One of the creepiest moments was delivering to an extremely poorly lit small complex one night ....then going back to the same place a few days later to see police tape surrounding one of the apartment entrances. That was his last victim's place.. Carrie Yoder. Pace's place was right up the road from our store as well.

Don't forget that there were like 2 other serial killers at the same time as DTL as well... Sean Gillis was one.
The other you're thinking of was Ronald Dominique who admitted to killing 23 men, mostly black men from 97 to 06 before being caught.
He was a dumpy little homosexual who preyed on men and strangled most of them to death before just dumping their bodies all over S.E. La. He killed in N.O., Kenner, Baton Rouge and the River Parishes where he was finally caught when one of his intended victims reported to police being picked up by a weird little man who wanted to tie him up with the promise of sex with a good looking woman.
Dominique was clever in his ruse and he picked the not so smart victims to pull it off.

There’s also supposedly what appears to be a lower budget movie coming out on it. I can’t really find too much information on when it comes out or if it has already been released. IMBD link

I remember during the trial or whatevver the defense tried to argue he was mentally handicapped and the advocate headline was huge print on the front page.... 'DERRICK TODD LEE RETARDED" probably shoulda saved that

What was it like around Baton Rouge at that time? Were people really paranoid or was that exaggerated? Did any of you with a white pickup truck get strange looks?
Paranoid isn’t really the right word as there was a serial killer on the loose. Tensions were high, no doubt.
I was a young white guy in grad school at the time and lived right off campus on highland. I drove a Ford Ranger at the time (not white though). I probably got pulled over a half dozen times for not signaling a lane change or going 36 in a 35. I knew what was going on and was okay with it.

Does anyone listen to the Radio Rental podcast? I remember one of the stories was Derrick Todd Lee following a lady home one day, she called her husband to be outside when she got home and Lee pulled into the driveway of a house down their street and the husband confronted him. It was months later they saw his arrest on the news and realized what was taking place.

Part of what added to the terror when DTL was murdering women was that these were middle class, respectable women minding their own business in their own homes. The weren't drug users, prostitutes or victims of domestic violence. And no one knew how he was picking his victims. Every woman in the area was scared she could be next.

It is amazing how they finally caught him...
