My wife took our 3 kids to their bi-annual teeth cleaning today, and my oldest had a ‘hole in her tooth’. (Trashy I know). But the dentist wasn’t there, on vacation. Now if I had known or if it was an emergency, not a big deal. But he is on vacation this week.

So we have to go back next week for a consultation.

What kinds of BS is that to have a dental office without a dentist available? First off, I’ll pay extra for the 3 min exam by the Dentist. But secondly, if it’s absolutely normal for him to be there, why would we not be told he’s gone and cleanings are 10% off or whatever for him not being available?

My wife payed already and I’m pissed about it. We are acquaintances with the dentist, he’s 2 years younger then me and we went to the same HS but I don’t have his phone number so not friends. Same group of friends and what not. I’ve been going to him for years. But he’s also a hustler and a businessman so I’ll be damn sure to bust his balls.

Our damn time is worth damn close to his (not subtle brag) so this is BS. So how trashy am I to be upset OT?

He should be there. Part of the cleaning is getting the dentist to quickly look in the mouth and examine X-rays.
I’d ask for some money back

A cleaning is a cleaning. I never see my dentist when I go in for a cleaning.

But is it the dentist who is doing your cleaning? Doubtful.

My dentist did my cleaning at one point last year, but that was because of COVID/lack of hygienists.

You shut the frick up, arse hole.

The dentist isn’t cleaning your teeth, the hygienist is.

Mine does. The hygienist only takes X-rays and holds the water sprayer for the dentist. Dentist does everything else and only charges $115.

No, the only thing that sucks is that I lost some of my bone structure in my face. Getting dentures ages you

Not always. No one has ever cleaned my teeth but my dentist. Never heard of a hygienist even doing a cleaning.

I am a dentist in Louisiana. The Dental Practice Act that governs us provides for a dental hygienist to see patients when the dentist is out of the office, with specific parameters. The hygienist must have several years of experience, no new patients are allowed, the patients seen must have been in that dental office at least once in the previous year...etc. There's a long list of specs. Really it is no different from going to see your MD but getting assigned to the PA. Also...it is common courtesy to alert the patients the day before that the dentist will not be in...that way no one is surprised.
