In February, the 18 reporting airlines canceled 1.7% of their domestic schedules, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The rate improved from 3% in stormy January, but slipped from 1.5% in the same month a year earlier, according to the report. Delta scored best by cancelling 0.1% of its flights, Hawaiian 0.3% and United 0.4%. The highest cancellation.
Delta was also best for punctuality, with 87.9% of flights arriving within 15 minutes of their schedules, followed by Alaska with 85.3% and United with 84.7%.

That actually started with Lexington back in the 80s, a Delta jet landed there when the crew thought they were landing in Frankfurt (KY,) or vice versa, been a while
ETA: they were in the news weekly back then

Not the first delta connection crash in Lexington. They had a gruesome one about 10 years ago that’s interesting to read about but hard to watch.
Damn. All 49 on board died in the crash except for the pilot who decided to takeoff from the wrong runway.
Not only does he have to spend the rest of his life with brain damage and paraplegia (according to one of the commenters in the video) he has to live with the guilt knowing his carelessness caused the deaths of all 49 people.

oncoming trees.
Seems a weird verb to use with trees. At least the trees that I'm familiar with.

Yeah. We thought initially my brother in law was on that flight, but he wasn't. It was a Sunday morning and we were at church when word came in about it. Read all the reports about it later. Pilot error clear and simple, didn't verify his heading and runway before revving the engines. Also, the ATC had some minor fault too, should have been paying closer attention to the one plane taking off while it was still on the ground.
By the time they realized they were out of runway, it was too late to do anything. Senseless.

I remember when two bozo pilots took off from the wrong runway at Lexington years ago. Completely astounding level of incompetency.

Those CRJs suck
The new Embraer 175s are a much better ride

Aren’t regional pilots severely over worked and lacking any real experience?

LEX has 2 runways, RWY 22 is 7000 ft and RWY 27, which is GA only, is 4000 ft.
Not inconceivable that in shitty weather, a rough ride, min visibility, with the landing thresholds that close, to line up on the wrong runway.

Liars! That grass is as green as the grass outside my door here.
There haven't been any US flagged fatalities for about 5 years outside of the poor lady getting sucked halfway out of the airplane earlier this year.

Yeah that crash is really infuriating. As they start rolling one of them says “that’s weird with no lights” since there were no runway lights on the short, closed runway. And the other guy just goes “huh, yeah” and they rotate.

the pilot did a fantastic job making sure they didn't hit oncoming trees
Too bad Jim Croce's pilot didn't have tree awareness and the airport didn't have the common sense not to have a tree at the end of a runway.
