Blue Grass Airport has confirmed that Delta Flight 3359 from Atlanta to Lexington veered off the runway into the grass on Saturday afternoon.

Reportedly all passengers aboard the flight are safe, some saying that they had to be rescued from mud.

Puddle jumpers always make my a-hole pucker. Y'all ever been on an intra-Caribbean flight? Christ.

On top of them feeling rickety as hell half the time, I always seem to be on them with the sketchiest looking mother frickers around.

I’m terrified of flying. I know that it’s an irrational fear, but that experience would not help much.

damn truth...a while back, as I boarded a small airplane, I causually mentioned how raggedy the thing looked. a nearby flight attendant got all pissy when she heard me say it!

Not the first time a Delta Connect plane has overrun a runway at Lexington.

In 2006 a Delta connection flight took off from the wrong (much shorter) runway and overran the runway.

Not the first delta connection crash in Lexington. They had a gruesome one about 10 years ago that’s interesting to read about but hard to watch.

A lot of people died in that one. In fact, only the FO survived.

They got rid of the shorter runway and redesigned lighting at the airport because of it.

Also, because of that accident, control tower regulations changed to having at least two staff in towers at all times.

Absolutely tragic.

Very few regional props left in the US, that’s a commuter, good jet, who knows what you get as far as the pilots

Regional airlines and mainline pilots are held to the exact same standards and regulations as mainline airlines.

There have been more incidents with a fatality on mainline aircraft than regionals in the last few years.

Nope

ETA: entirely different ball game when comparing stats, btw, our mainline has 3000 departures a day, trying to recall, but pretty sure you’d have to go back a ways, maybe last century since we’ve killed anyone

ETA: disregard eta, just remembered one this century

That's about all we get at the BR Airport are those regional jets

BTR has all regional jets, except delta which flies 1 or 2 mainline flights to Atlanta on the 717. Everything on United and American is an RJ to DFW or IAH.

Wow, haven't even had the news on, about 5 miles from my home.

We had the accident in 06 with 49 people killed on take off. Scary stuff.

I fly in and out of there all the time.

Does make you wonder what happened here. The main runway can land any plane easily, so what happened, was he way down the runway before touchdown? We have had crazy storms here today, so visibility could have been very low.

Edit: Says ran into the grass, so I'm guessing wind pushed him off the runway. Winds have been super strong here most of the day.

Looking at a map of the Blue Grass Airport, It looks difficult for me to see how the pilot mixed up the 2 runways. They seem far apart and not aligned at the beginning.

You’re looking at the new runway configuration. The old design (prior to 2010) had the two runways at an angle starting near each other.

The new design moved the smaller runway farther away to avoid further mixup

If you look at old satellite images in Google Earth you can see the old configuration.
