Delta Air Lines says it's no longer allowing passengers to fly with "pit bull type" dogs as service or support animals. The Atlanta-based airline describes its ban announced this week as an "enhancement" to its policy on animals in passenger areas. Delta also says it's limiting travelers to a single emotional support animal per flight. The changes take effect July 10.

The airline's statement says its new ban on pit bull type dogs responds to "growing safety concerns" after several employees were bitten. But the ban is prompting a social media backlash, and figuring out exactly which dogs fall under the policy could be a challenge. Delta describes them differently, as "Bull type dogs," on its online list of prohibited animals, which includes reptiles, spiders and goats, among others.

I've said it before but some governing body (don't know who) needs to basically pinpoint a few LEGIT service animal accreditation companies and America should only recognize those services from here on out. It's sickening the amount of people that can go online and 20 minutes later print out a certificate for their "service animal".

I'm glad at least one company has the balls to use common sense.

Good.

I don't care what the PitBull advocates say. They absolutely have the propensity to endanger people and other animals as compared to other dog breeds. IB4: Blah Blah Blah, "depends on the owner". Well, 90% of the owners are lower class trash who don't train them as they should because they are nothing but a hoodrat accessory to them. So your argument is invalid.

I agree, something needs to be done. I think one way to move it forward would be to argue that some of these "emotional support dogs" - such as pitbulls -could be argued to cause emotional distress in some passengers. If i had been attacked by a pitbull before, i really wouldn't want to be sitting next to one on a plane.

Can my Boxer support me as I get on the plane? She has a big head, is she "pit bull" type?

Sounds like more winning for Delta. Trashy fliers will book through other airlines instead of Delta

Southwest has $49 flights. Have you been to an airport lately?

They can't be, that's the point. People are gaming the system.

Once again, service and emotional support dogs are not the same thing. They keep getting lumped together. Actual service animals provide assistance and are highly trained expensive animals.

Most, but not all, emotional support dogs are to get around rules

Delta flights just got a whole lot safer. Now I don't have to worry about getting killed by pit bull while I fly.
