I have been doing this in everyday life when it comes to random life decisions/choices that come up on a normal day. For example impulse buying is a very good one. But it can really be used in lots of situations. Anyone else out there do this?

I eat all the food I don't like first so I can end the meal on a good note.

I try to and it’s really over mostly frivolous things like impulse buying and choosing not to binge a series that drops an entire season at once. It does feel good, but as a millennial, my urge to scratch the instant gratification itch usually triumphs.

Yeah, I figured this thread would be about masturbation.

Deferred gratification as a practice in life
Every day, in most areas of my life.

I came from pretty Calvinistic stock.

I have passed it on to my kids, I'm happy to report.

I have just the opposite. Premature gratification.

Nope. I lost my job in 2008 and then had multiple family members die in 2009. No more waiting for retirement to travel, waiting on money to do things that make memories, etc.

When covid lock down happened and the world went crazy I doubled down on it and after restrictions lifted we took a bucket list trip to Alaska and moved to a new state for more travel opportunities. No regrets.

Last night she made meatballs and gravy and Brussel sprouts. i gobbled up the sprouts and didn't even chew. Then took my time and savored the meatballs and rice/gravy

Are we married to the same woman? If so, I guess it's at least good to know it isn't just me

I do. I have a food supply, lots of ammo, a 4X4, a generator, a garden, and a hand pump.

Do you foresee having a difficult retirement? Or are you rich and this discussion really doesnt apply to you?

I thought I was the only one. I will eat 10 bites in a row of just rice/noodles/whatever so that my last bite has meat in it.

not at all. We choose to live in a very small home and drive older cars to have more disposable income.
