I’m assuming it’s not safe to drive today

If you don’t have to drive don’t.
It’s super icy.

So my flight yesterday got pushed back till tonight from Florida to BTR. Curious of how the city is responding today if businesses are going to be open today / life is resuming over there or is everyone / everything still hunkered down? Also thoughts on chances of flying into to BTR tonight
So people will start stirring around a bit today, most businesses will stay closed, tomorrow will be a little more , but “normalcy” wont be till Friday
I would doubt the airport opens today

Low temps at NWS stations
Lake Charles 1
Acadiana Regional Airport 1
Lafayette 4
Baton Rouge 7
Patterson 9
Hammond 10
Houma 10
Galliano 19
New Orleans International 23
I got these from raw data reported online on the NWS pages
The north wind over the warmer Lake Ponchartrain water kept MSY warmer.

That's what I tried telling folks last night - thawing will be minimal until temps warm up for an extended period. There will still be some snow on the ground this weekend
Just for comparison sake, here in Kentucky we had close to a foot two weeks ago. We still have snow on the ground today. We had a small stretch of above freezing with sunshine last week but we’ve been in a decent cold snap overall and it’s just not melting.

My road is an ice rink right now. No way anyone is driving on it and not sliding around.

Yeah now is when a sneaky layer of ice builds up under what looks like fresh soft snow. I’ve had times when my yard was 100% impossible to stand in even with snow boots on
