Now, what Boat notes, Shreveport is deeper in the arctic airmass, and its too dry. 25% relative humidity, and all the snow evaporates as it falls.

You'll get snow returns on radar but nothing actually happening down on the ground b/c of this

The dew point being a little under the temp can actually get you snow even if its slightly above freezing at the surface, bc the evaporation cools the snow off as it falls and stays snow.

what happens when its above it. Like Houston is 47% humidity at 36 degrees

basically ideal winter driving rig.

Nissan 4x4s with hill climb mode engaged and severe snow rated tires almost make it too easy. I've never once chained up out west.

She’s been there 3 years and loves it. But she comes home every spring for crawfish.

I would move up there in a second. My husband…absolutely not.

Just read a report calling for “plowable snow” along the gulf coast. Never heard that term before but it’s pretty descriptive. Like “jet skiable flooding”.

Just got an alert that it’s about to start snowing here

Seems this system may overperform and reach further north

The dew point above the ambient temperature?

Ahh...

The dew point a decent bit lower than the temp. Might be too dry to get much.

A lot of people were banking on the hi resolution models with the moisture staying south. It’s already proving those models were wrong. Glad y’all to the north will get in on some of the action too.

Nah, I see what happened.

Relative humidity involves the dew point and ambient temp. So youre getting at the right idea, just had some terms mixed around.

How bad is it for a well/pump to drip the faucets pencil thin for ~36 hours straight?

Obviously better than the alternative but damn if I’m not just as worried about that thing crapping out

The temp in Shreveport is 34 with a dew point of 1 for a 25% relative humidity. It is dry as a bone and evaporating.

23 here, 57% humidity

What’s that mean for me?

No I think the moisture makes it well down to the coast. I’m just saying the moisture will build up more north than the hi resolution models were showing.

I have a sweet 2 year old golden retriever that has never seen snow. Thinking the best day of his young life will be tomorrow

Last snow event I experienced was in the TX Panhandle with my now deceased basset hound, tossing out bones and watching him track them through the deep snow. I've most been looking forward to sharing similar experiences with my new basset hound. May be the only chance we get now that I live down here on the Coast.

relative humidity is a great proxy. The biggest snows Ive seen have been at 29-30 with RH near 100%

But when its 35-36, you need that RH to be lower but not too low. 60-70% allows enough evap without evaporating everything away.
