He had actually settled down and grown up a bit by the time of his death. Maybe it came from actually experiencing parenthood with Sean (he was an absentee father with Julian), but his views had moderated quite a bit.

A lot of his rah rah liberalism was attention whoring anyway.

You can be an idiot and still be a great musician. It happens all the time.
Plus, I think he genuinely believed and lived out his ideology

The Beatles started a record company called Apple. If I’m not mistaken, they signed James Taylor to his first contract. When Lennon was murdered, Taylor heard the shots through the breezeway in the building while sitting at an open window.

McCartney died the same day as Nolan Ryan a few years ago.

Some of you people are too stupid to breathe the same air with.

That's not James Taylor's only connection to the murder

quote:

In an interview with BBC’s Tom Brook, singer/songwriter James Taylor reveals how he met John Lennon‘s assassin Mark David Chapman the day before the murder on December 8, 1980. “His assassin had buttonholed me in the tube station…He pinned me to the wall, glistening with maniacal sweat, and tried to talk in some freak speech about what he was gonna do, and stuff about how John was interested and how he was gonna get in touch with John Lennon. It was surreal to have contact with the guy 24 hours before he shot John.”

I was walking down Yale Avenue in Salt Lake City when a stranger came up to me crying and told me that Lennon had been shot & killed in New York City.

It was my first “remember where you were when you heard about it” moment, I was too young to remember when JFK was assassinated.
