Here are a few things this “prediction” gets wrong:

In Koontz’s novel, “Wuhan-400” is a human-made weapon. The coronavirus, on the other hand, was not.
We don't know that for sure. Most likely not, but we don't know that for sure.

In the novel, “Wuhan-400” has a 100% fatality rate. While researchers are still learning about the coronavirus, the current fatality rate sits at about 2%.
3.4%, announced yesterday.

He claimed we would still be using disks, the comparison is invalid.

Snopes fricking sucks. That didn't really disprove anything.
They are arguing technical issues, such as mortality rates to disprove it.
No one thinks it's a real prediction. It's just a weird, funny coincidence.

Exactly. The guy predicted a virus coming out of Wuhan in 2020. That part is true.

In the original version of the book, the virus is named after a Russian city.

Kevin,
Your thread title is "Dean Koontz Predicted COVID-19 in 1981 novel" and you posted the information you did and in no way did you indicate that it was an internet meme (and by saying it is an internet meme you are saying it should be taken as a joke right?).
Why didn't you mention that it wasn't meant to be taken serious when people started posting about it as if they thought it was not a joke?
Just admit you didn't fact check it before you posted it.
Thanks
OweO

I looked that up a couple of weeks ago and I thought (?) it was saying that the change to Wuhan was made in about 2008 (online copies only?). That made it seem even more strange, although possible that I didn't fully understand.

In 1981 Russia would have been a bigger threat to the US than any other country. Maybe by 2008 publishers/editors of the book felt new readers would understand a threat coming out of China more so than out of Russia and changed it to a Chinese city.
