I don't respect you either. Most of my ride hands have been doing this for years and have the pride to do a good job. You like to act like we are beneath you but some of my people make $15 an hour when they have been doing it for a few years.gFY!

Solid troll. It was subtle at first ... But all good trolls must come to an end. Well played.

What's crazy to think about in freak situations like this is the fact that if you get in line a minute later, you may be seated in a different seat and not not be flung 50 feet in the air, or someone else could take your spot on the ride. Just so unfortunate to experience that nightmare.

Based on the small sample of official statements released...combined with watching the incident and aftermath videos repeatedly - I'm pretty sure I've figured out who's who on the victim list.
quote:

I really hope those 2 legs on the ride don't belong to the same person.

They do. If you watch the He was in the outermost seat and the only one wearing jeans. His legs were slammed into the platform as that car dipped before breaking away entirely.

An update on some of the other victims:

- Keziah Lewis, 19, of Columbus, Ohio She is the other person who was catapulted by the ride. Watching the video - You can the deceased flung directly from his seat while she falls free from her harness into the path of another car. It basically punts her. She landed flat on the pavement about 30 feet away.
quote:

She kept asking for her boyfriend,” Clarrisa Williams told the newspaper. “I had to tell her he was the one who was deceased.

Williams told the newspaper her daughter does not remember anything from the crash. She fell from the car and suffered pelvis, ankle and rib injuries. Lewis underwent surgeries Wednesday night and Thursday morning and has a third operation scheduled for Friday.
LINK

- Abdihakim Hussein, 19, of Columbus, Ohio This was the guy that was twisting in pain after stumbling off the ride. He was hit by debris (and likely by K. Williams while she was in freefall)
- Jennifer Lambert, 18, of Columbus, Ohio This is the girl in the short shorts and black shirt who was carried over somebody's shoulder. She was in the same car as those who were impacted by debris and flying people. I think she suffered a head/neck injury severe enough to render her unconscious. The fact that she may have been having trouble breathing without assistance is troubling.

Their conditions reported here: NBC News via Youtube

ETA:

Tyler Jarrell, 18, of Columbus - DECEASED

I forgot to include the fact I've determined the "broken legs(s) guy" to be Russell Franks, 42, of Columbus, OH.
Seated next to him is Tamika Dunlap, 36, of Reynoldsburg wearing shorts/skirt and sporting a light blue flat shoe.

Jacob Andrews, 22, of Pataskala looked to have a broken ankle or similar injury but exited the ride hopping on one foot until he was assisted off the platform. He is wearing a white shirt and black jeans/pants and has a Carl from Walking Dead haircut.

Unnamed Boy of 14 turns out to be 13-year-old Tyler Griffen who has an injury to his arm and collarbone. He was seated next to K. Lewis - The female who was ejected from the ride and survived. (source)

I know it says these rides are inspected, but aren't these inspections done by the local fire department? How in the hell is a fireman supposed to know jack shite about some ride that just comes pulling into town one day? I've always wondered about that.

I don't know if this video has been linked yet:

Aftermath before security "Back up" arrives (NSFW - Language and Cringeworthy view of victims).

Shows the guy with the mangled leg(s) and Keziah Lewis layed out on the pavement just as help arrives.

What the hell is wrong with people when their first reaction is to break out their camera and film a disaster as it unfolds? That would be one of the absolute last things I would think of in those moments after something like that happened. Our society sucks sometimes.

No, they're inspected by a division within the Dept. of Agriculture. These guys are professionals and the best in the country.

I saw a facebook video once with some obviously fake carny rides that would be too dangerous for real life... Didn't want to see it again.

If that's the ride in the YouTube video (didn't click on the video of the accident) that it happened on, that's dangerously close to what I saw in that video... Too old for that... A fine chick couldn't even convince me to try it

Wow I'd love to round up some of those plaintiffs and sue those carnies out of existence.

The folks here who speculated metal fatigue get a cookie.

Photo appears to show crack on ride’s arm grew to catastrophic break

quote:

A closeup photograph of the severed metal spoke that failed, killing one man and injuring seven, appears to show that a critical weld holding the seats onto the ride’s arm may have cracked over time due to metal fatigue, and then suddenly and catastrophically failed, said Gerald Frankel, a professor of materials science and engineering at Ohio State University. “What is on the left side (of the break) looks very different than what’s on the right side,” Frankel said. “That first part on the left took some time to grow. That part on the right, that didn’t take any time.”

I don't see a "weld" there unless it was on the inside for reinforcement...could be the steel itself wasn't up to snuff for that component.

So the folks on the ride saying ing they were getting closer to the platform were likely not imagining it...and it WASN'T due to the operator or ride raising the platform back up in error.

I watched the video and this was my first thought. We have become a society that wants to video rather than help in order to post something on social media. The downfall of a civilization.

I already edited my previous post based on newly released info, but will re-post here:

I think I can accurately match everyone on the list of casualties with their position on the ride their current injuries/condition.

- Tyler Jarrell, 18, of Columbus - DECEASED

- Keziah Lewis, 19, of Columbus, Ohio She is the other person who was catapulted by the ride. Watching the video - You can the deceased flung directly from his seat while she falls free from her harness into the path of another car. It basically punts her. She landed flat on the pavement about 30 feet away.

- Abdihakim Hussein, 19, of Columbus, Ohio This was the guy that was twisting in pain after stumbling off the ride. He was hit by debris (and likely by K. Williams while she was in freefall)

The fact that she may have been having trouble breathing without assistance is troubling.

- Russell Franks, 42, of Columbus, OH. is the "broken legs(s) guy" from the detached car on the ground

- Tamika Dunlap, 36, of Reynoldsburg was seated next to R. Franks in the detached car. She is was wearing shorts/skirt and sporting a light blue flat shoe. The nature of her injuries have not been released.

- Jacob Andrews, 22, of Pataskala looked to have a broken ankle or similar injury but exited the ride hopping on one foot until he was assisted off the platform.

(source)
