Saw picture of the pontoon. Looks like the CC hit it starboard directly where the captain/console were. Just speculation, but the pontoon probably heading downriver coming around a right bend in the middle. Center console heading up river and hit it in the turn.

Very difficult and you really need to know the river. I usually carry a spotlight and at certain times have someone shine it ahead if the moon isn't out or you don't have lights from camps lighting up the river. We also just putt. Never above 10mph.

Im very close to this incident.
The Party barge had multiple lights. I don’t know where people getting that lie.

Sea fox driver was not on his side of the river. So party barge driver had to make a move bc sea fox wasn’t budging on the wrong side.
Then at the last second. Sea fox turned right into party barge after realizing too late he was on the wrong side
Just tragic and unimaginable.

That’s interesting because multiple people in this thread have said that pontoon had no lights. Not that I don’t believe you, just curious as to what comes out.

Where exactly did this happen?

Edit…Kings Point, is that the first big bend down stream of the no wake zone?

I own a party barge.

Cant imagine going fast enough with 8 people on it to kill someone.

That’s us tho.

It wasn’t, 25’ boat did the damage.
When faced with a decision of which way to go in a stand on situation or give way it’s a million $ decision. I made the wrong decision and I almost cost Me and my brother our lives in 2006. The alternative would’ve have been as bad or worse.
WL&F will determine fault shortly.

Knowing the driver of the boat, I can’t see him not having a boat with lights. He was a very responsible individual.

I have NEVER heard of this. Born before 84 and idk anyone who has taken a boating test.

Born before '84.

I took that boat whatever class.

It was voluntary.

I have no 'card' issued to me that I'm supposed to carry to confirm my accomplishment or pass any requirements.

What? You can be sitting idle. If a center console hits you going 40 mph it doesn’t matter how fast you were going.

It sounds like the pontoon didn’t have any nav or anchor lights on

It's very doable.

Stop saying the boat didn’t have navigational lights on. This is false. It is a 150k barge with a permanent ski rack with a permanent white light marker.

Stop trying to create a false narrative
