Go buy Zyn nicotine patches.

I'm not saying not to do this, but your addiction is to nicotine.

I've known people to "quit" smoking or dipping, only to rely on the patches and gum for years afterwards.

Certainly the patch is "healthier" but it's not doing anything for your addiction.

Just grab your balls and QUIT. "Weening" and "wearing smaller patches" over time just lengthens the withdrawals.

Or become a social smoker. I know plenty of people that only smoke on the weekends or every other month or so if they’re drinking. A pack can last well over two weeks if you are more of a social smoker.

Explain how people do this? I’ve always wanted to know.

I quit off and on regularly. But usually what gets me threw the cravings is a combination of yard work, hydration, and if I'm getting a "tick I'll grab a toothpick or a straw. Part of your addiction is habituary if that is a word. The action of puffing. It becomes instinctual and part of that is tied to your addiction. If you break the chemical addiction the next step is to break the habitual motion. Becomes easier. My downfall is always when I'm struggling with anxiety and decide to throw down on some beers as I am doing now.

It becomes harder if you have a spouse who smokes and is not on board. I don't care if he or she does not do it in front of you, the fact that there are cigarettes around will be too much of a temptation for you and makes backsliding all that much easier.

It's addictive and makes you an angry/ornery/jittery person when you can't have it.

And it's typically delivered along with carcinogens, via smoke, dip, etc.

Smoking/dipping doesn't "relax" you. It keeps withdrawals at bay.

Actually you’re also addicted to molecules in tobacco that can’t be replaced anywhere and are 1000 times harmful than nicotine. Nicotine is just a stimulant like say caffeine. It’s natural and doesn’t really cause significant health issues. TOBACCO and the products they put in it is the true problem.

It takes steps. Stop the tobacco and not just for a month, six months or even a year. I’m talking two to three years. Then tackle the nicotine if you choose once you research and just spout shite like this idiot about grabbing balls and shite.

So, those are delivery systems, not nicotine in and of itself.

So does caffeine.

In my numerous attempts to quit, probably 90% of the time I failed and had a smoke was because I was drinking. Drinking and smoking just go together if you were ever a smoker.

Yes. I have quit twice and the middle portion was entirely fueled by drinking more than anything. I basically don't drink now b/c I still want a cig when I get tipsy.

When I quit, I worked 12-16 hours/day just to stay busy. After two weeks, it gets much much better.

Good luck to you. Your family appreciates what you are doing.

I'm with you I miss the positives of nicotine. When I dropped 40 lbs in 6 months a few years ago I was still smoking and now that I'm working on it again, it's much more difficult. The anxiety-reduction, focus, appetite suppression, etc. were very beneficial.

Did you take Chantix?
That’s how my Dad felt on it, like he had flu for 2 weeks

When I quit the 1st time I couldn’t believe how shitty I felt after smoking again
Thought I could do with only smoking on the weekends after a year
The next morning I felt like shite, sore throat, stuffy nose, nauseated

Don’t think a year later you can have just 1
It doesn’t work like that for 99.9% of people
& it gets harder to quit every time you try
