You would think he had enough money not to worry about going the con route, but he went a pulled a Dr. Phil instead.

We’ve lived in a 2 BR apartment for 15 years and drive cars from the 90s. Our friends who are in debt go on vacation and drive F250s and live in McMansions. Making the same money.

But hey… WE’RE DEBT FREE!!!!

Someone explain why it is so hard to get out of a timeshare. I hear these commercials on Sirius and it sounds worse than owning a house that is underwater.

When I think of timeshare I think of Disney timeshare which to me seems to be a good investment if you go all the time, and you can easily sell it. Are these crappy timeshares that no one wants to buy and the original buyer was conned into getting one?

And for the record I don’t own nor will I ever own a timeshare.

Am I the only one who thinks these people are fricking nuts? I don’t
Care if Dave Ramsey is slimy, a fraud, or whatever. You asked for an opinion and you got one. Why is it his fault things didn’t work out? Should I sue LSU if I use Dudley and Debossier for legal work and I don’t win my case?

Sounds like they should be suing Timeshare Exit Team. I don't see where it says they ever entered into a contract with Dave Ramsey.

No way that is remotely true.

Dave has helped thousands get out of debt. I can't side with this suit against him. The company should give them their money back but to file a suit for $150Mil is stupid. I saw a suit in Calif last week that awarded a women $100Mil for some silly reason. It's out of hand. Dave should have considered getting with that company and pushing them to do the right thing. He is not a bad apple. He was paid to use his name and he should push them to do the right thing. It's not his fault.

Timeshare Exit Team probably has few if any assets. Ramsey has lots of assets.

I haven't paid much attention to Ramsey. The few times I've heard him his advice was simplistic but probably not bad for someone in over their head with no idea how to get out. He seems kind of smarmy and condescending but callers also try to argue with him. If you don't want his advice don't listen to him.

If you're already good with money, Ramsey is not likely to be beneficial to you. His core audience and the people that he is beneficial to, are people that aren't so great with money. I've done insurance, I do mortgages, and some of his advice isn't beneficial to me at all. He hangs on term insurance as the only option, but whole life and especially variable products can be very beneficial under the right circumstances. So, take his advice and apply it critically to your own life. I don't know anything about his timeshare ordeal, but at the beginning of that promo, he explicitly states how bad timeshare deals are.

He’s very good for the person in debt and no clue how to get out. His investing advice is terrible.

Most advisors have blind spots and can give bad advice. All have to use some assumptions that you may or may not agree with. I also think they are over priced at 1%. Most would be better paying an hourly fee once a year than giving them that much.

I listen to Dave Ramsey on occasion and have for years. He has begun the process of turning his show over to other personalities - most of whom are good. His daughter is also on the show now and is very likable.

Dave has done far more good than harm. I don’t follow most of his specific advice but I try to generally live beneath my means and invest regularly for retirement in large mutual funds (which is basically his core message).

It may not be you, but probably 95 to 99% of Americans would be better off financially if they followed his advice.

No different than some health guru telling most of America to eat less and move more.

I will readily admit some of his advice probably takes things too far (and sometimes borders on silly) but I’m also not out of control wilth spending so I don’t need what amounts to financial rehab that many of the folks calling probably need.

I never ever ever understood time shares.

Ok you like having a condo on the beach. Why not rent a condo in the beach? Why does it have to be the same place every time then for 1 week a year?
The ONLY timeshare that's worth it is the DVC . As I have "rented"points and there is a huge demand.

But as far as condos. I don't get it especially in the days of Airbnb.

Though I'm looking for people to go in with me to buy a condo outright in Isla Mujeres. Though that's more investment than vacation.
