Dave & Buster's could soon be coming to the Riverchase Galleria after a year of talks between Hoover and the Dallas-based company, city officials said tonight. The proposal was presented this evening at a council work session. The agenda gave no other details only saying the presentation was about a "Proposed Dave & Buster's -- Galleria." The company, which offers a mix of arcade-style games, food, and adult beverages, will be going into the Forever 21 spot near the Galleria food court, Councilman John Lyda said. Council President Gene Smith said they will employ 140 people -- part time and full -- and offer a mix of 150 games, old and new. They hope to open by fall 2018, Smith said. But first, the proposal will have to go before the city's planning and zoning commission because alcohol has never been sold in that location, Lyda said. If the plan is approved by planning and zoning, it would then go before the full council. Lyda said he believes there will be no problems getting those approvals. Smith said the company has assured city officials employees will be trained not to serve customers too much alcohol.

I would have been happy for this like 5-10 years ago. I've been to a few of these and they suck. Food sucks. Drinks are overpriced and games are usually old and broken.

D&B in Austin attracts a pretty trashy crowd. Not sure why everyone wants one.

Not yet. I thought they were targeting around mid-2017 but haven't heard anything about it in a while.

Wish they would've put it in Metairie or somewhere else besides the CBD...just a pain in the arse most of the time with traffic and parking to get there.

You KNOW they're pissed missing out on NBA All-Star Weekend. Middle and upper middle class black folks love them some Dave & Busters. They'll think nothing about dropping $50 to shoot baskets to win a stuffed animal that will go in the back of a closet in the spare bedroom.

Long time Birmingham folks, didn't we used to have one of these on 31? Somewhere near the Krispy Kreme and Publix? I moved up here in the fall of 2004, and remember going to some bar there with coworkers and my wife and there being arcade games. I remember walking in there a few weeks later during Thursday night college football, and it wasn't even 9:00 PM yet and they turned us away and said they were closed. We just wanted a quick bite and to watch the rest of the games. Only place I can remember that was a sports bar telling people they were closed during games and the place was about half full.

The Krispy Kreme used to be a place called Putt-Putt. I spent many a quarter in there when I was younger. I don't remember exactly when they shut it down.....

Not what I was thinking. This was in a strip mall, not a standalone place like Krispy Kreme. Maybe near the old Outback?
