I'm going down to a wedding in Gulf Shores next weekend (Yes during hang out fest, kill me now), and was wondering if anybody has used the ferry to cross over. The house we rented is right next to where the ferry comes in at Ft. Morgan. Would it be faster (due to hangout traffic) to try to take the ferry? Does the line for the ferry ever get too long and you miss it due to capacity? TIA

And almost no way the ferry will be faster

I've taken it a few times, more just for the nostalgia of it. Not sure how much time it'll save you, but I'd take it just to avoid the headache of dealing with the hangout traffic in Gulf Shores.

If you're right next to the ferry drop off then yea, go ahead and take it. But it does fill up pretty quickly in my experience

Going to Gulf Shores tomorrow. I am going through Mobile without any second thought. Hangout fest would make me reconsider the ferry though. Ill try and get times and see how it is, if I get a chance for you.

I used to cross on the NR St. Francisville ferry as a kid, and thought it was cool as hell back then.

This is the main reason I am considering it.

I'd do it just to do something different since you're right there.

I think it's a 30 minute ride, but was told it will be a good bit longer if it's rough seas. The line to wait looks horrible to be in when it's hot

Beach Express to Hwy 180 (Fort Morgan Rd) eliminates the heavy traffic on Hwy 59. Cross Hwy 59 near Wal-Mart and smooth sailing all the way to Fort Morgan.

The ride is not the long part. waiting on the ferry is. And hopefully you are able to get on and dont have to wait for the next one

I think its $16 per vehicle. Takes about 40 minutes to get accross, but you can get out of your car and hang out by the edge of the boat. Its fun for kids, but it doesnt save you time unless there is a wreck on I-10.

The schedule is posted on their website and their Facebook page. They tell you if/when they're running two boats or just one. If you time it right, you do well. It's certainly less miles on the car, less stop-and-go traffic as you know about when the boat will board.

They update the site every morning, and sometimes the FB and Twitter during the day.

You can also order tickets on the website.

Don't know hwy #. It's the first exit past the Hwy 59 Gulf Shores exit if your coming from Mobile.

It's the exit with the big sign that say's Beach Express

Make sure you check the website if you decide to do it. If they only have 1 boat that day, don't do it as the wait time on land is outrageous. If 2 boats are running, it's great.

I just found it on google maps. That may be the way to go. TI'm just too nervous about missing a ferry and being way out of my way.

There's a lot of oil & gas infrastructure to view while riding. I rode it last Monday for the first time. If I was staying in FT Morgan, I would definitely use it instead of taking the beach express. Like others have said, the line, depending on timing, might be brutal.

The website says $16, but it costs $18.
