If your house is right next to the ferry station, absolutely take it. From the DI exit, if you went without the ferry, it would be a miserable two hour drive with Hangout. It will take you 1.5 hrs with the ferry if you time it correctly.

We took it once, about 10 years ago.
Don't know if it has changed, but at that time, ferry capacity was about 25 cars -- not much, especially if you've ever taken the bigger ferry to Galveston.
If you miss the first load, your wait time is about 1.5 hrs before it comes back.
It was neat to do that once.
