The car is covered. You'll have to list her as a secondary driver in the household now. This is for Louisiana though.
Im surprised that by age 19 your insurance didnt contact you had asking if your child is covered under another car insurance once she got her license, if not they will forcefully make you add her.
Millions of families do this. Doesn't make it right but I get it. They have to cover her if she is a resident of your home and your child. Car insurance rates are a complete legalized money racket.

Who owns the car?

I think it's the other way around. At least in Louisiana. If the child doesn't live with you there is a loophole (debatable) where the vehicle is covered when the child or anyone else is only an "occasional" driver. Essentially the same as letting a friend drive your car.
Eta: you will have to add her to the policy now though

They will cover it.
Not sure they will if her address on her license is the same as the parents'/vehicle registration. She either has to be covered or explicitly excluded.
We've been through this and the only loophole is when a child "lives" with one parent and "borrows" a vehicle registered to the other parent.

Bingo. I have been through this with teen and adult children in college who have their mother's address on their license. If you get along with the ex spouse you should definitely take advantage of this loophole

It’s borderline fraud. Insurance companies get pissy.

My daughter has her own apt, with her name on the lease.
She borrows my car….

Depends on the application and policy. Were you asked about regular operators and household members. There are likely applicable exclusions but also companies in certain states can rescind the entire policy for the material misrepresentation. You are expecting coverage while not paying premium for the risk.
Yep. In Georgia, any licensed driver who lives full-time in your home must be on the policy whether they drive the car or not, which eliminates someone living in your household “borrowing” the car.
Could be different in KY. Either way, i would play very fricking dumb during any interaction with your insurance company. Answer their questions and don’t volunteer a bit of extra information.

In Mississippi it’s the car that’s insured. I didn’t put my kids on my policy until I had to. When one them did get in a wreck my agent said i had to put them as the driver or else they would cancel it. It was BS.

My agent told me not to list her, that they will cover the first one.

Yep. It's not fraud to let a kid borrow your car. It's "temporary".

No. Absolutely wrong. If she lives with them and they didn't list her on the policy she's going to be an excluded driver. Matters not a single bit if she's an "occasional driver".
Insuring young drivers cost a fortune. You think insurance companies are going to buy the " it was just everyone once in a while" lie?
If they did , no one with any sense would insure their kids, just say they were an occasional driver once the shite hits the fan and hope they get away with it.

"My daughter borrowed the car".
Years and years ago i had some stupid 96 Impala on 20" Daytons and I went out of town and had a friend drop me off at the airport and i told him he could use my car. He went to the lakefront and got hit by a drunk dtiver with no insurance. My insurance paid out no issue and I got a new car.
Your allowed to let people borrow your car. As long as they aren't excluded from policy.

Is it large national type of company with a large fleet or a small, more local company? Large company is probably in a captive program and may pay out of pocket then subrogate against your carrier. Then your carrier will decide whether to pay or not. They’ll likely pay it then decide how handle it with you.

Exactly. But don't wait. Make him do it now. If he does you can just sue him if the shite hits the fan. If he refuses or stalls, you better get your arse to an honest agent.
