the topic is weird, just like it is in real life. But it's not that much different than many of the other threads here. He has a situation, and is asking for advice based on other people's experiences. And while there will be some jokes (hopefully not about the little girl), there will also be solid advice. I posted this knowing full well that 2/3rds of the comments would be garbage and maybe 1/3 (if I'm lucky) would be helpful. Such is life on the internet.

I have no male family members or close friends who have daughters who have recently (like in the last 10 years) gone through this. Most of my family is boys. Most of my friends have boys, or younger daughters.

I guess I could have asked dads of my daughter's friends whom I know only in passing, but that would seem to me to be much, much weirder than asking here.

I have a shrink I go see every once in a while. She's great. She's also a she. So not really gonna get the dad perspective there.

You don't know me and I don't expect you to have any reason to trust or believe me, but I can tell you this wasn't a post just for random attention. Several responses have been helpful.
