It depends on why they disagree. If the SO actually has real beliefs and they are polar opposite yeah you might wanna look elsewhere. If they are just a Democrat/Republican but don't actually know the issues, it's not a huge issue because they don't really have well established beliefs.

My wife and I don't 100 percent line up on everything and we are good. You have to be able to see the other person's side and listen to them. You can't just call something she believes in stupid and wonder why she's mad. If you aren't willing to see her side even in things you don't agree with this doesn't sound like she's the problem.

This. Just like with the right, there’s plenty of left leaning people who aren’t the vocal nut jobs. A lot of the things the loons on the far left have morphed into complete garbage actually originated as legitimate good things. Feminism being a great example.

To just say THATS STOOPID like a caveman ain’t doing you any favors.

Now, if the girl is a far left lunatic... RUN.

$20 says that if the two of you wrote down on separate pieces of paper your definition of "feminism", they wouldn't be remotely similar to one another.

Sounds like you both suck arse at communication.

What she means by this is "I need to carefully explain to you when we're sober why I'm right, and you need to shut the frick up and not step out of line again."

I am not very political, so it wouldn't bother me as long as the person wasn't extreme.

Depends on what she means by feminism. If she means 1st wave feminism, then sure, I think 90% of society can get on board with that. If 3rd wave feminism, then absolutely not. I'm an egalitarian and not a feminist to that degree.

Never a good idea to date a communist. Even if you are a communist.

Exactly. A lot of people who disagree on things like this don’t even necessarily disagree. They just define the word differently.

My wife and I differ on religion but not politics. We have very little that we share in common as far as hobbies, etc. We have very different personalities. We have been together almost 30 years because I respect her being strong enough to disagree with me. My life would be incredibly boring if I had a little robotic wife who went along with everything that I said. Differences make life fun, but you can't be insecure and threatened by a strong woman, no matter what their political beliefs are.

Most feminists like traditional gender roles but want the option to do whatever TF they want with equality to men.

Those who don’t know the issues are the worst. If they have beliefs based on facts they’re critical thinking and opinions will change as facts change. Much more reasonable person. You can actually have a discussion.

She likely feels the same way about you. Feminism means that men and women should have equal rights. You told her you don't believe that. I'm surprised she didn't dump you on the spot.

Is it worth trying to compromise when you disagree on a lot of things? She’s a great girl but unfortunately a liberal. For example, we got into an argument last night about feminism. I said it was stupid and she got pissed and went home. This morning she tells me that she wants to have an “honest sober discussion” about it.

I like this girl but I feel like this is a huge barrier.

In short, she’ll rant at you about why you’re wrong and how you are promoting the oppressive patriarchy.
