Cop was a shitbag for dropping him face first. Kid was an arrogant dickweed that wanted trouble. Easily avoidable if both people did their parts

Cop was a shitbag for more than just dropping a nonresponsive person on their face, let's just be clear.

in the sense of personal safety, however, refusing to comply was pretty dumb.

Agreed. But what still bothers me is that in an officer's world, refusing to comply to an unlawful order gets your arse beat.

That's the problem. Police Officers, by nature of their job description, are supposed to be the voice of reason.

There's plenty trying to say the kid was equally in the wrong as the cop

Read the thread yourself , it's littered with mouthbreathers. We're not in a court of law.

That contradicts what Independence police said shortly after the incident, when officials announced the car’s license plate was associated with a woman wanted on an arrest warrant."

Anyone else notice how often we now find out official police statements are turning out to be pure lies meant to cover their asses for abusing their power?

Remember Waco Twin Peaks? Remember the hostage shot by cops Neenah? Remember the teen in Chicago shot by cops 16 times? The mentally ill man shot in Dallas? The guy shot in the back by cops in California?

All these incidents have one thing in common, official police statements that were proven to be outright lies.

Whether you want to admit it or not, saying one should just "roll down the window," is ultimately giving these bad cops power.

Meh. I agree with a lot of your thoughts in this thread, but not this one.

Again, there is a court system, use it.

You realize you can turn almost every "argument" you've made back on the cop, who is an officer of the law

If he "rolls down the window" here, the cop likely isnt arrested and continues to break the law and violate rights.

Maybe. I wouldn't say it's likely. I think the cop would probably have found something else to escalate this articular situation, since it wasn't their first encounter.

And yet, as is typical for this cesspool of a board (that seems ok with this kind of stuff but will filter dirty words) even this isn't enough to simply call a spade a spade if it means saying something bad about a cop

This right here with emphasis on CESSPOOL. Everytime a cop brutalizes a citizen or violates someone's civil rights they betray the trust that the public has put in them. How anyone can do anything but condemn such behavior is beyond me.

You control a bad cop, but you can control yourself.
