Dash cam recommendations

Looking for a plug and play dash cam option for front and rear view. Looking at both Fitcamx and VIOFO options. Anyone have opinions on these?

I see these becoming more and more popular and understand the appeal. Do they save the footage for a period of time? Does it go to an app or something on your phone?

I was gifted a Viofo dash cam. It is super easy to install and works perfectly. Got it after some stupid bitch turned right from the outside lane in front of me and caused the wreck that totaled my truck.
She was at fault, but I sure wish I had a recording of the incident.

I have a viofo and would recommend it. With a 128gb micro sd card, it'll record a month or two of footage in 3 minute clips. At any point you can press the button and it will lock that footage from being overwritten. It also has parking mode where it only records when it detects motion and this saved us in a parking lot hit and run.
The cam and your phone link through a wifi connection. It doesn't take long to save a video and the app is fairly simple to use.

They are all pretty similar. No reason to spend over $100

I think mine will save it for a few days then its gone. I downloaded a car fire on I12 that I drove by a few months ago and was really impressed with the vid quality. And yes, there is an app that allows you to control the camera and video so if you need it you can download it to your phone, cloud, or insurance agent.

Dumb question, but where does rear camera go? If inside, the tinted window doesn't mess with the video quality?

Make sure you get one where you can have parking mode enabled. That has frustrated me finding ones that are easy to connect.

I think you have to have a "always hot" voltage supply, so the mirror connections dont work.

I have the FitCamX on my Ram.
It was very easy to install.
I do not have it hardwired to the fuse box - just plugged into the rearview mirror - so it only takes video when the truck is on. But they do sell a hardwire kit that will record if the camera senses motion, or if the truck moves like it was hit in a parking lot.
My only issue with the camera is accessing the videos can be kind of a pain in the arse. You can pull the SD card to view the videos. But if you want to view them from the app, you have to sit in the truck while it's running, turn off your cellular and bluetooth on the phone, then access the footage through a temporary wifi signal from the camera.

I have dark tinted windows in my truck.
This is what the rear camera looks like during the day
I thought I had a screen shot of the rear camera at night, but I can't find it. But the picture is as clear as the front camera at night.

You're going to want that rear camera. It isn't hard to install. Pull the rubber door seals, and run the cord under the headliner. I attached my camera to the left side of the rear window so it doesn't interfere with the sliding back glass.
