Per Randy Rice's Facebook

quote:

It is with great sadness I want let you know that our friend Jim Nasium (aka Danny Simar) passed away peacefully at the hospital in Baton Rouge this morning. I am so grateful that I got to visit with him one last time yesterday. What a great radio partner, he was (THE BEST)…he was my BEST MAN in our wedding…and a dear friend. Funeral arrangements are: visitation noon - 2 pm following by service at 2 pm - Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas this Saturday, July 13.

Made morning radio fun when I was a kid. Another voice from my youth silenced.

Yeah--once he got out of radio I have no idea what he did after that, and that has been 30+ years ago.

But his "Tiger Trax" segment that he put together before each LSU football game was appointment radio on Fridays.

How many of us tried to emulate that on our cassette decks back in the day?

I’ll always remember their WFMF spot (with the airplane crashing into the barn) playing during the trailers at the Bon Marche cinema.

Edit: Found one of the ads. Ahh, Shexter beat me to it.

Awww, man....I knew his health hadn't been good for many years, now.

They were THE radio duo in BR throughout most of the '80s, for sure....A huge part of my younger days.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP, Danny (Jim)....You'll be greatly missed.

I have the vaguest memories of a mock interview with RC Slocum with "Please Don't Go" and "You've Got the Look" spliced in.

Is Nasty Man in the Mornin still kickin?

It's strange how little Baton Rouge has changed since 1985 (other than the obvious change with crime)
It's as if this town is stuck in a time warp of sorts.

I actually remember him (Nasium) once mentioning that RC Slocum either coached him and/or was once a coach at his high school around Orange. One of my uncles in Orange used to know him pretty well in his early years of coaching.

He pulled off 2 different personas. He was the Jim Nasium character on WFMF, and he would also go upstairs to WJBO and do the morning sports reports as his regular self.

We moved away in 1987 when I was in middle school and I remember listening to these guys on the radio and enjoying them. Rest in peace JIm Nasium and thank you for the memories.

Did he sing that Wake Up song? Something like wake up wake up you little sleepy head get your little buns out of bed, both cheeks now…..

I don’t know the name of the song.

I remember he joked that his sister’s name was Audie Torium and his dog was Collie Seeium

Exactly… another reason the 80’s were my favorite decade. And don’t forget about Margaret Taylor.
