Daily at work, every time there’s a new “directive” or “operational improvement” from corporate, I think of part of the Charge of the Light Brigade…
quote:
“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

poem:
Here I sit, broken hearted.
Tried to shite, but only farted.
Here I sit, broken hearted.
Tried to shite, but only farted.

Birdie Birdie
In the sky.
Why’d you doo-doo
In my eye?
Now I’m not mad
and I’m not sore,
I’m just glad that
cows don’t fly.
In the sky.
Why’d you doo-doo
In my eye?
Now I’m not mad
and I’m not sore,
I’m just glad that
cows don’t fly.

Teacher edition of my textbook. I literally just read it sometimes when I have a few minutes to myself.
At the house, a beer and a cigar on my deck is my dandelion break.

The poem “Ulysses” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The ending:
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley

quote:
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

From the late 90’s New Orleans poet, Juvenile:
You see, me, I eat, sleep, shite, and talk rap.
You see that ‘98 Mercedes on tv? I bought that.
I had some felony charges, I fought that.
Been sent to no return, but still was brought back.
Ninja threw some slangs at me, whodie, I caught that.
I punished them lil bitches before they could car jack.
Now I’m lookin for their family and potnahs to war back.
If I ain’t a Hot Boy then whadda ya call that?
