quote:I happen to disagree with Carlin(if he says the country has moved to the right because that’s a ridiculous notion) based upon my own experiences.
I think it's far more likely that he's honest and far more educated on the concept than you and that you just don't like the conclusions he's drawn.
You on the other hand apparently listened to one podcast and became infatuated with this guy and chose to make his exact opinion your own. An opinion you are apparently unable to defend.

That's nonsense. It's more that we've been happy to give up freedom in exchange for security. On both the right and the left. I'm far more worried about the left at the moment with their desire to restrict free speech.
You do realize that your link to History on Fire is ultimately to a pay site? I'd like to listen to Carlin but I'm not signing up for Luminary Premium.
Here's Dan Carlin's last Common Sense episode from May of last year. He gave up his political blog basically because there is no source of information he trusts anymore. Interesting listen. And free.

Apparently not. I had that idea long before discovering Carlin. And yall keep saying my opinion is wrong yet I've yet to see someone actually defend that position. I'm waiting.

Just search the podcast episodes. Bolelli’s are free.
And for some more context...
He is not saying the country has moved to the right like in the last five years. He’s saying since the Great Depression we’ve moved to the right. And he makes the claim that it was a response to the Cold War and the current national security state that has come with it.

No it's not. It's pretty clear how this country has shifted much more to the right economically. I suppose I should have stated economically to begin with.
As for the rest of it, I agree completely. The left has currently chosen to try to shape the narrative with all sorts of absurd ideas. It's amazing how they went from being a hard science only crowd to now being a quasi-religious cult.
People get so hung up over the social aspect of it and miss the really important part. Which is exactly the goal of the government.

There are plenty of rebuttals to your argument. You just dont like them.

The overall tax burden of the American citizen has gone up.
The government continues to grow exponentially.
The country as a whole is moving away from individualism in favor of collectivism.
The electorate in general, especially the left, increasingly despises indivise freedoms such as freedom of speech and private property rights.
All of those are leftist positions and the country continuously moves further in that direction. It has never moved opposite of that direction.

There have been none in this thread and you in particular have put forth zero ideas.

You may as well erase that initial post. No one is bothering to read your explanations.

There are 4 pages of rebuttals.
Why do you think we've shifted right as a country? Maybe we should hear why you think so first so I can understand your argument.

Bush raised taxes.
His son kickstarted the exponential growth in this century.
These are specific examples, not generalizations that point to self-proclaimed right wing politicians that refute the point.
The last point is patent absurdity as the "right" is as big if not bigger at reducing rights. IE the war on drugs, the war on terror,

All you have to do is tell the class why you think this country has shifted right. It's not hard

Eeehhhh. Are they though? Were the Nazis left?
And this is exactly what they talk about. Both sides have moved the goal posts so much that there’s no consensus on what is right and what is left.

Just because people on the “right” espouse those ideas don’t make them rightbwing. It only means that the “right” has moved further and further to the left. Which completely destroys your entire argument.
