Not to sidetrack, but is John Mahaffey still with us?

Seems like he lost his voice a few years ago. Very sad. Rip.

Yes, it kind of took him of the air, IIRC.

Louis Miller had a radio talk show on the weekends. He built up a loyal following, but more importantly he inspired countless others to get outside and do something. Yard work and gardening may not appeal to everyone, but it's better than many alternatives on the weekend for most people. Sorry to see this.

If you grab them by the scruff of the neck, like kittens, you can remove them one by one.

I’ve heard the same anecdote about John Mahaffey.

I sat next to him at The Talawah Lounge, where Cafe Americain is and The Jefferson Lounge on Floynell. He was a Libby Civelo fan and wherever she was bartendering he was there. So was a mike Rhodes along with quite a few others.

Went to school with Libby’s kids and knew Mahafdey’s daughter Marylee very well.

Is this common knowledge beyond here?

I know a few folks that were close to him that will be very sad. Hadn't heard from them, so I'm worried they don't know yet.....

True old school Baton Rouge. Before his radio days he had a loyal following as manager and plant go-to-guy at the Naylor's hardware on Florida Blvd. in Broadmoor. (Long ago and In another galaxy)

Believe the arrival of Home Depot closed that store and he managed to transition into a radio and TV career.

Eventually became the only reason to listen to NPR in Baton Rouge.
More homespun wisdom than Senator Kennedy. (No offense meant toward the senator.)
