WOW, in the victim impact statements, his brother spoke and said he doesn't even want her to go to jail, he wishes nothing but the best for her, then he asked the judge to let him hug her. They hugged for a good minute. It was weird.

Didn't she try to blame this all on being drunk. But then the toxicology report came back that she was stone cold sober?
Also, didn't she say that the door was slightly open. But then people said that was impossible at that complex because of how the doors close.
I don't mean to be harsh but all that has been gone over numerous times here. No to the drunk defense which isn't a defense and she just clocked out of work. While the doors do auto close there was some question of his striker plate being uneven and keeping the door from fully closing. Ultimately we don't KNOW for sure exactly the situation of the door but it was not closed and locked. It could have been closed but unlocked or slightly (or more) ajar. There is a lot we can't KNOW 100% like whether he was still seated when shot though the forensic evidence suggests he was.

for frame of reference (can't speak for Texas), but a drug user in FL getting caught with a baggie of 14 grams of heroin would call for 15 years mandatory prison. So inevitably this ex-cop chick and some drug addict girl will be arriving to prison at the same time..
"What did you do?"
"Ugghh had a bad addiction. Caught 15 years. Have to do every day. You?"
"Oh nothing, killed a guy for no apparent reason.

He's definitely a better man than I am. I'd want her to rot in jail.

When people speak of Christianity, they should view that video.
He, and his brother (RIP), are impressive young men.

She will do five years for killing a man in his own home. Smh
Lol could you just imagine the outrage on here and a few other places if someone busted into a cops home, shot him, left him for dead and then only served 5 years on the murder conviction.

Agreed. I don't think I'd be able to forgive Guyger the way he did. Maaaaybe over time but... I dunno. I'd probably be pissed she only got 10 years TBH.

For frame of reference, a lady recently got a 5 year prison term for voting before she was allowed to as a prior felon

Well, it wasn't a B&E by any stretch if it was it would have been a capital murder charge.

I don't often question downvotes on here, which frequently defy reason, but your post is an exception. Some strange folks on here.

I know if I went into somebody else’s home and killed them I would be doing way more then 10 years. That is a good man right there because that would be the last thing I would be doing is hugging the person who killed my brother.

she entered another person's dwelling without authorization, with a loaded firearm, and committed cold blooded murder, if she wasn't a cop she'd be eligible for AARP when/if she got out
ETA: in some states that's 25 years min time served

She got off a little light. But that's okay. Too many people are over-sentenced. And Jean's family wasn't out for blood.
I do like how Texas has flexibility in sentencing. That way, juries can return he correct verdict and then deal with sentencing totally separately.

Some people don't believe and I get it.
The fact is though he does and he's living one of the most important tenets of the faith.
Whatever else anyone thinks, you can't say a thing about his actions.
They speak volumes.

The problem with your legal interpretation is for the legal requirements of burglary to be met she would have had to have had the intent to commit a felony when she entered the apartment. There was zero testimony that even suggested this and it is frankly silly.
If that were the case the complexion of this trial would have been totally different, she would have been charged with capital murder and gotten life w/o or the death penalty.
