Dads of daughters, I need some advice.

I’ve got a 5 month old beautiful, healthy, happy (although her first two teeth have started pushing through her gums so not too happy) little baby girl. Mine and my wife’s first kid. She looks just like me and there isn’t a second that I look at her or hold her or think about her that couldn’t draw a smile to my face and make me content. Even if it’s 2:00 in the morning and she’s up crying wanting to be held, I’m 100% willing if not thrilled at the moment to be doing it.
My wife can speak to her in baby tones and kind of play with her and get her to laugh and smile. I can too, it’s just that I’m not as good at doing it with infants as she is. Where she isn’t as good at playing with kids (you know like 3 to 10 year olds or around that age) in general as I am. I just find myself ofttimes just watching my girl, in awe of her. She’s babbling like babies do and trying to scoot around as best she can. And she smiles at me and her mama all the time which melts my heart. And I really make an effort to pay attention to her.
However, I find myself kind of, I don’t know, sad would be the most succinct way to put it, that she’s growing up. And there ain’t a damn thing I can do about it. The way my daughter is now is the most pure and innocent thing I’ve ever seen and I want her to stay the age she is right now for a long long time. She’s awesome in the truest definition of the word. I never knew I could love another thing in the entire world as much as I love my little girl.
I know I can’t be the first dad that’s encountered this type of feeling before. Does it ever go away?
I know that I would be feeling the same types of things if I had a boy, which I really hope I have one day as I want a child I can rough and tumble play with and do guy things with. But I have a strong feeling like it’s different when you have a boy compared to a girl.

Have another kid. It’ll be fine. Just keep doing it until you’re satisfied this feeling.
ETA: dad of twin girls (4 years old). Same thing, don’t have a boy but know I feel different about daughters than I would a son.

My girl is turning 8 in a couple of days. It goes fast. In a blink of an eye she will be graduating high school.

Enjoy the ride. I have two girls, 5 and 1.5. They’ll get older no matter what.
ETA Today I picked up the younger girl from daycare. Just wait til you do the same and she comes walking out with a grin from ear to ear because dad is there to pick her up.

I have three daughters, 18,14,12.
I hate any two of them at any given moment of the day.

You'll be fine. Mine is 19 now and I still vividly remember the little moments like you're describing. You will too. What I'm saying is just burn these days in your head. Soon, they will turn to crawling. Walking. Talking. Recitals. First day of K. Then first day of college. It's a cool ride.

I have 2 daughters that are in college (no pics). No that feeling never goes away, it just gets stronger as they get older. Girls to me wasn’t bad at all raising, my 2 younger boys are hell, the entire house is broken

My daughter will be turning 10 in a few days.
Just love her and follow your instincts. There is no rule that says you have to play with her a certain way. Your wife will have her relationship and you will have yours with her. I know it can be overwhelming, but kids are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. When my daughter was a little older, we use to play wrestle, just like I do with my son.
In our house, my daughter comes to me with all things sports, video games, and animation, etc. She goes to my wife for clothes, nails, hair, etc.
Just enjoy it as it comes, and go with your gut brother.

Doesn’t go away. Getting sad about my oldest girl being almost 12. Turning in to a little woman.
