What the fack? Can't recall seeing a 10 year old that couldn't swim since I've been a parent.

Pretty much.

I'm not going to teach my kid how to "make a good cup of tea" when I could spend that time playing catch.

nice, you're outside doing something together

I think that's really the main point rather than specific activities

It is also given to them with limited time limit which is earned with good behavior during the week.

I bet they have to knit their own clothes too.

My kids were never interested in video games so it was not a issue, but TV watching was a problem so we had the cable disconnected, they read more, and found more things to do outside, some of our friends acted like it was child abuse.

Those friends are being ridiculous. Television is garbage nowadays. I’d prefer my kid playing a video game than watching what’s mostly available on TV. Even if I try to sit with my boys and watch a ball game on TV, the commercials are mostly pathetic in their portrayal of men and/or they are inappropriate, then the political bullshite is always embedded in there too, in both the advertising, and the broadcast itself.

I guarantee the people in this thread who are criticizing the dad for making his son play outside are in their 30’s and still play video games regularly.

They defend the video games no matter what.

It's just going to make the kids cave it more and become addicted

My kids don’t play any video games at all, and they don’t appear to be suffering any ill effects.

They may very well turn into gaming addicts when they leave home, but at least I’ll know I wasn’t their original dealer.

On second thought, that’s a little inflammatory for me to say. I’m not saying you’re basically a drug dealer for letting your kids play video games, and I’m not saying they’re evil or that my kids can never play them.

I just meant that I’m not going to let them turn into addicts on my watch. What they do when they leave home is their business.
