Had something very similar happen in Alexandria a few years ago... baby mama killed baby daddy at custody swap in a Walmart parking lot

If there is any real conflict, typically we like to have exchanges at LEO stations. Almost all of them have a dedicated area for exchanges that have cameras (and LEO, obviously).
These people had a "he can see the kids when he's in LA" sort of arrangement without specific exchange dates/times/locations. The dad's latest filing focused on her denying visitation to him and preventing him from seeing the kids (plus the regular alienation, etc.). It says he planned this trip and then she ghosted him.
I talk to clients about that. These flexible plans have benefits but risks, too. With all the shift work here, it's very common, too.
