Cursive Makes A Comeback In Louisiana Schools

Why??
Across the country, there's a new push to bring back an old skill. Last year, the Louisiana Legislature joined 16 other states in making cursive writing a required course in elementary schools, and the law took effect in January.
OThat means that most second-graders started learning cursive this semester, and the law specifies that all Louisiana children must be proficient in cursive by the start of the third grade.

Total WASTE of time. All you’re doing is taking time away from building a student’s math and english foundation.

I agree, add science to that though. There is no point in devoting time to learning cursive.

Perhaps there is a correlation between being forced to learn cursive as a kid and not being a Bernie Sanders supporting frickhead. Then again, tons of millennials were forced to learn cursive.

This will never stick until they start releasing cursive keyboards.

Before: "Damn kids these days don't even know how to read or write cursive."
After: "Why the hell are we wasting time teaching kids cursive?"

The woman who wrote the bill in La said she got the idea when some guy said he could hire young people because some of the deeds in his area were handwritten and they young folk can’t read cursive.
That’s why bills get passed in La. some old boy told me something that one time. Can some old boy tell our legislature to balance a budget and fix our fricking roads?

There are studies that show improvement in certain cognitions when one writes in cursive versus using a keyboard. People that support does need to find that research

Occupational therapists love it. Supposed to be related to long term learning and retention, among other things. But so is just writing in general. I think it's a waste of time. I HATED learning cursive. It felt like a waste of time back then.

I was always embarrassed by my cursive. My hand has lost the muscle memory and now it looks like a 9 year-old’s cursive. Signing a check a rare times I write something on a hard letter is only times I use it and it feels weird

It's the OT. You're surprised?
