Isn’t this a blatant protection racket covered under RICO?

This would be the definition.

The release states that La Bodeguita de Mima was forced to close July 24 during a demonstration that shut down East Market Street, at which several protesters presented Martinez with the list of demands and said he "better put the letter on the door so your business is not f*cked with."

"It shouldn't be seen as a threat. It is to start a conversation..."

"Start a conversation" has become the most patronizing use of words. It is 100% not about a "conversation". A conversation involves two sides. Only one side is allowed to speak in this situation.

They’re doing a good job at getting people that would’ve otherwise been sympathetic to hate them instead

But how often is this shite reported on your news? The last time I watched my local news it was all "Orange Man Bad"and "COVID will absolutely murder your family if you don't follow the rules."

If white-owned businesses have to hire 23% black employees then all black-owned businesses should have to hire 77% white people.

Can confirm that a large portion of people who were sympathetic here to their protests against LMPD over the Breonna Taylor case are not a fan of this. At all.

The sad thing is, NuLu has a diverse population of owners between Cuban-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc. And ones that give back to the community on their own with regularity. Had they approached the owners with suggestions for further diversifying their businesses (for instance, providing a list of black-owned suppliers that they may not have been aware of) then they likely would've gotten quite a bit of what they're asking met.

They're absolutely going to get told to get fricked over their tactics on this. And rightfully so.

They don't want equal opportunity.
They want equal results.

In other words.
They want to succeed, even when they collectively underperform.

These fricking assholes.

Phelix Crittenden, an activist who works with Black Lives Matter Louisville, said the demands and related "NuLu social justice health and wellness ratings" were not meant to be a threat but were instead intended to start a conversation with owners about how their businesses can better reflect and support Black people.
