Also here are aome articles on why cf ia fricked up, luckily when greyskull resigned his affiliation, it opened a lot of eyes
Im sure tons of CF people agree with him.
Bad coaching and misinformation are huge negatives in any sort of training.

the first article you linked is nonsense. One one hand he mocks the fella doing the workout down the street at the bad CF gym, then reports how he fires that kind of dude anyway
The second article seems legit. The CF I go to has an emphasis on most things listed. They preach and preach the same things he mentioned, I see folks violate the teachings, especially doing banded pull ups.....but at some point, it is a free country and these people are going to do what they want in spite of constant education on why strict pull up and the progression to them is important. We have strength days, lifting clinics, etc...but all the memebers seem to beg for metcons.....so we have a couple a week. Today is one of them, but they try to find a happy medium.
About half the members heed the advice of the owners, not all the bad vibes from CF have to do with terrible instruction, you have members and their inability to listen and learn info that is repeated incessantly. I can tell you this, if you don't deliver metcon programming, you can lose membership. Not all members want to do the mundane shite needed. It can be a tough balance, even for those owners and trainers try their best and in fact, know better.
I don't care, of course I pay too much, of course I could do it on my own, whatever....I enjoy it, I enjoy the group aspect, I enjoy working on my many weaknesses on my own.

The first article was written in 2009 when he resigned his affiliation and right after rippetoe left cf. He is/was not a typical affiliate and would kick people out of his gym if they weren't serious. That was what he was talking about. Also thanks to him and the article cf hq started testing to get certifications. Before you just went and participated. The article makes perfect sense.

I believe what Lester is saying is that he has improved across the board physically/cardiovascular, while spending less time working out.
I was just trying to disprove that "Crossfit only makes you good at Crossfit".
such a dumb statement, considering he keeps saying how they rip off other methods. So what exactly are the other methods doing for you? huh? getting you good at Crossfit? frick no. my functional strength is up across the board. my resting heart rate is in the low 40s. and Im not even that great with my cardio
Posted on 3/25/15 at 4:29 pm to Lester Earl
He will probably change the subject on you and start attacking something else he doesn't like about CF.

Do you just prefer the group atmosphere and motivation?
Partially. I also appreciate the accountability.
And as far as the 'class description', there's a group weightlifting portion followed by the actual WOD.
It feels good to kick arse before going to work and kicking even more arse.

Scruffy has never fought anyone who does Crossfit which pretty much means that they are all cowards and therefore only good at talking about Crossfit.

they arent ripping anything off. Your cf bias is showing.
The point is that this isnt new.

I know its not new.
with that being said, how does it only get you better at Crossfit stuff? If it's not Crossfit-centric. That's all im wondering.

If they tried just roll a tractor tire in front of them. They'll be so busy jumping over it, flipping it, and hitting it with a hammer that they won't notice you walking away laughing.

Second, I don’t have a problem with those people who want to go have fun and don’t care about actually progressing or being serious about their time and monetary investments. Those types get fired by me as clients quickly and I therefore don’t have to worry about dealing with them. I say let them have their fun. What I have a problem with is their use of the term “elite” fitness in all of their advertising and promotional materials. If you want to go to a fitness themed nightclub during the day to model your expensive yoga wear, do it, but for the love of God don’t pretend or claim to be elite
this article is inconsistent at best.
Posted on 3/25/15 at 6:30 pm to tigerfoot
How is he talking in circles? he is saying he gets rid of those types, but he is fine with them at other gyms, just not his. He had a problem though with then claiming to be elite.
The article is spot on, in fact both of those are. Sorry if it hits a nerve.

No nerve here, but if you read his opinions objectively, he is being a punk.
The second link is a solid article, and has been my experience at the three affiliates I have been to, if people fail to heed good advice, I am of the opinion that that is their right. I don't condemn the advice giver.
if you don't like the delivery of the modality, that is fine. Choose a setting you enjoy.
You say it is interval training, and it has been around forever, ok. So is it just the words you don't like.
get over it, I don't like treadmills, but damn I don't care if they sell em by the millions.

literally all strength is functional. there is no such thing as non-functional strength
it's another crossfit fad

Functional strength training is clearly defined and has been used in rehab, performance, an d other forms of physical training for centuries. Not quite a Crossfit invention

Back squats up to 295x3 and front squats up to 255x3 today.
Back was rather light, but I wanted to hit front squats, too, so I stopped at 295.
Not going to do any metcon stuff until after 15.5.

They certainly invented the idea they are elite athletes which is complete horseshite.
I'll repeat...I find it funny as hell they wouldn't use a Pole vaulter or decathlete in their explanation of fit athlete. I know why though. Blows the assertions of their regimen out the water if they did.
LSUAlum2001 is a kool-aid drinker. Bottoms up, pal.
