My brother is moving from New Orleans to Madison, WI. Single guy with a one bedroom apartment, not a ton of stuff but some decent furniture. Any recommendations? I guess just simply get a U Haul and drive him up there? How much would that run? Any advice?

Id imagine if you got the U Haul you wouldn’t have to run at all, luckily.

Uhaul is cheap as shite. It might be like $50 a day.

Maybe 70.

That’s all I got.

Assuming he isn’t getting relo, I’d just sell my big shite and drive my car up

Sounds terrible tbh

Get a POD type set up where you pack and they deliver. Take your time getting there and enjoy going the speed limit. Source: wish I would have done this moving back home from CO.

Depends on the size of the Uhaul. Tow behinds, say 6x12 enclosed are less than $150 or so.

Diff less than 350

Ive used Two Men and a Truck for out of state moves, they do a good job and not nearly as pricey as Allied Movers and the like.. But not all locations do out of state moves, the ones in NOLA didnt as of last year, but the one in BR moved us from NOLA to TX.. whatever you do, whoever you use- make sure you get a quote for a FLAT RATE and not hourly... trust me on this.

If you rent a truck, go Penske or something similar. Don’t rent a u-haul truck. If you rent a trailer, make damn sure your truck is capable of handling it easily.

It cost me $1k+ to get a budget moving vehicle to move from WI to TX but that was the entire vehicle and not a trailer. Give yourself an extra day cushion for “in case it happens” type stuff.

I moved across county a couple of years ago. Just bought all of my stuff and in my new city and shipped my car. Relatively easy.

That method was more feasible for me because I had lived at home prior to moving though.

Sell off anything he can’t part with and use it as an opportunity to refurnish with upgrades

The best two options have already been mentioned, either sell his stuff and buy new things once he gets there or get a POD and just drive himself at his own pace. Renting a UHaul and making that drive isn't worth the effort. The POD is probably too expensive if he doesn't have much to move.

And buy a block heater for his vehicle.

Like most things in life, depends on what he's willing to pay. I moved across country a few years back and looked at every realistic option. Ended up renting a Uhaul and towing my car, mostly because it cost me the least.
