Cretin Homes

How many of y'all can provide RELIABLE information on them? I've searched their website but can't find numbers as far as pricing.
If you have land that you would like to build on, do they let you use that for collateral?
Do they finance? Would it be better to get financed through my credit union?

I've wondered if their homes are built by cretins, or for cretins.

Possibly the worst name ever - no clue about their quality or price though.

I'm not sure if I follow you. You're implying that they may contract out their builds?

Based on your questions, it doesn't look to me like you are ready to build a home.
Why not go to a bank or your credit union and let them prequalify you based on income, and let them tell you how much house you can afford. If you own your lot, that certainly will improve your position with the lenders.
Cretin Homes does not do financing.

You can't be serious?!

Pretty serious, I was under the understanding that they strictly build their homes.
Also, I've been pre qualified already through the credit union but didn't know exactly how Cretin did business. Hence the thread

Nevermind, I don't wonder about that now.

I know the owner quite well and they build a nice house. If you are prequalified, why don't you pay them a visit and figure out if they are the right builder for you.
They are not custom builders, but work from a book of floor plans that can be altered to fit your needs/budget.

Ok thanks for the reply. I've planned to go over there and see what they have to offer but I'm currently working 7-12s and have been for a few months.

My extended family pitched in for two "get away" places to be built in Amite. We started with Davie Shoring and it was a shitshow that dragged on for about a year and required lawyers to resolve. We ended up getting one of the two homes from them (WAY late, IIRC 6 or 7 months late) and it has been fine. When the second Davie home was a no go, the family went with Cretin. They got shite done on time, were pleasant to deal with, and the home has been great. Only issue has been toilet paper holders/towel racks attached to walls falling off fairly easily. Very minor and the home warranty fixed that with quickness.
Couldn't tell you anything about their financing as it was paid for in cash.

I laugh at this place every time I pass it. I know it's a bastardized spelling of a French name, but what an unfortunate last name.

As long as it's not Reve. They are pure trash.

I'm not sure where Holly Beach is and I don't drink man. At this point it's easier to stay in rhythm and not take off instead of sleeping in .

I've never heard anyone refer to somebody as "cretin" after looking up the word I did LOL at my comment and the others about the word cretin. Please Excuse My ignorance!

You want to leave your email, I can answer any questions you have and give you some good starting points with the process.

They've recently merged with Townsend Homes. My folks had their house built by them two years ago and were satisfied. No major issues with the process, other than a lot of rain delays. Over the last ten years or so, a couple of cousins have used them and were satisfied. A co-worker recently finished a house with them, and seems happy enough with the work.
As far as prices, go in and talk with them. The one my folks ended up with was $147k, including a few upgrades, dropping a septic tank, removing seven pines, a shotload of dirt, culvert work, etc.
