what kind of pruning do you do to them?
Trim all of the branches and leaves 3/4s of the way up the tree until they reach a decent height. I like to keep the lowest limbs around 7ft.
If you only allow 2-3 sticks to xome up from the ground, they grow faster. We typically plant 2 trees together because they grow quicker and hardier.
Also you can mix colors this way.
Most of those are pink and purple.
The white and red are beautiful blends.

not sure what you mean by this, like 2 at the same time? or in the same hole?
how does that make them grow quicker?

Warning, if you get them this size and manage to kill one, a replacement is about 6k. Don't ask.
Holy shite!.. Then I got a good 30G's in trees sitting in my yard...
I'd like to open the bidding and 1000 per tree!

Has anyone recommended taking out that big arse pine tree? I'd be more worried about it than the crepe myrtles. I've seen those pines chop a house in half during a moderately strong T-storm

If you plant two small trees with the trunks touching, the trees seem to grow much faster.
They also will grow together over time.
Not sure why they grow better. We have a few trees guys who can explain it. I just know the single plantings are half the size of the others.

The trees are cheap, it's the ability to transplant that costs a god awful amount.
My father in law paid a little of 20k to have a few large trees put in front of his house he had on metairie rd.
First sign he was a dumbass.

A lot of houses down there seem to have large pines close to the house. I never see any fall. *knocks on wood*

If they didn't fall during the flood, I hope I'm safe for a while.

Maybe it is the soil composition here in Louisiana but tall southern pines tend to fall a lot here.

It must be. We have loblolly pines in abundance and I rarely seem them fall.

Get rid of the pine ASAP. Its waiting to crush your house. Get rid of the big oak near the road along with the CMs. Leave the mid sized ornamental tree.

Take out the oak, pecan, and pine (by the house). take out all the crepes. Plant Japanese Maple in center of yard. Frame far left side of property with a line of crimson, peppermint, or white crepes with spacing about 10-12 ft between, from front to back of property.. Enjoy healthy, lush, beautiful yard with a striking accent in the middle and excellently framed in about 3-5 years (depending on how fast the crepes grow).
You can thank me later.

I'm happy someone finally pointed that out...even though it took 5 pages.
The thread title essentially says the following:

Leave them. They provide shade.
