Exactly. I betcha there are THOUSANDS of middle aged dudes drinking a beer at night looking at their gun case thinking "I wish a mothafricka would try an come up in herr." but in a coonass accent.

seriously?
you would give up/tuck tail knowing what this frickers do to people? have you not see all those videos of the dull knife beheadings??
i would protect my home & family to my last breath before i'd ever let them gain another inch of ground.

In this scenario, we would have a day or two to consider our action. I have to think that a many people would grab their families, pack their cars, and drive out of town. Most people would find it in them to shoot an invader if that person was coming after them, but given a day to decide and you may see many people opt to leave
True, but I guarantee the odds will still be in our favor.. Open season on a group of people most southerners despise ...Please ...let them fight us in the swamps...

Without any outside help from the gov or surrounding states, it would take a while. But the fight would be a losing battle for ISIS. No way they could defeat the people down here on their own turf. Maybe I'm over exaggerating how these people would fair, but its my opinion so.....
I would imagine that 90% of people that own guns wouldn't hesitate a second to shoot an ISIS member if they feel threatened.
Hell, those insurgents might not even make it out of Lafourche or Terrebonne parish if they were invading from the gulf.
And most people that would be leaving town with that notice, would not be the ones I would want to be in a dog fight with any way. Many people stayed down here for Katrina and so many other named storms. I can't see them laying down so lightly if someone wanted to take their land from them. Those are the ones ISIS would need to be worried about.

I dont' at all. I would be one of the first people shootin. I like to consider myself prepared for something like this. But I also think the sound of automatic gun fire, mortar rounds and RPG's coming at them would cause many to flee. I would think most of the population of west and north shreveport would be out. The good ole boys would win this one out for the state.

This would end up being a game of Battlefield... Everyone playing sniper with nobody wanting to do the dirty work..
Eventually we would take them out with numbers, home field advantage and desire.. They'd lose the will to fight after a month and we'd mop them up in month two.
My assessment as well. Although we apparently have a bunch of Ramboos in this thread that would strap their belts across their foreheads and run in like a confederate infantry.

well that would be stupid
hopefully you'll be part of the small percent that runs away. we don't need any of your bad ideas.

I would IED the frick out of them, then snipe them in the confusion.

It would be a gory scene when the Jihadi's fall into a BR inspection sticker checkpoint.

Sorry if I bring some common sense to this thread. If you think that more than 75% of Louisiana citizens (not soldiers) would fight against a bunch of Arab invaders with a day notice, I think you're wrong.

First off, I have no military experience so this scenario is purely based of what I know from the History Channel and movies.
So this is as I see it: We beat them pretty easily, see below for my scenario.
I am assuming an invasion by sea, this will not work very well for them, our eroding coast has given us a built in defense. Basically they would be mired in the miles of marsh and swamp land, we could cut off bridges, leaving them an easy target for a counter strike. They could try to come up one of the rivers but I believe we could effectively cut access up a river pretty easy, scuttling barges and making a blockage. Also with the miles and miles of oil rigs on our coast they wouldn't get much of a surprise, we would see them coming. They would initially cause damage on the fringe, but due to our geography couldn't penetrate very far inland.
Just my two cents, what do you real military guys think?

I think you misunderstand.. a lot of people grew up like me .. on the water and rivers of this state ..and if anyone has ever ventured deep into the swampland they know, if you're not familiar are prepared...Bad news awaits.. B/c not only would they have to fight a group just as nuts... they'd also have to battle elements they've have never seen... Gators, snakes.. mosquitos the size of hummingbirds...

When talking about the gun owners in LA, I expect well over 90 percent of them to take arm without hesitation if Arabs invaded our state.
Of course I don't expect most women and children to fight. They would be apart of hiding behind the lines under shelter.

While alot of people in LA did grow up like that, there are 10x's more that didn't. LA isn't all swamps and crazy coonasses. Would be willing to bet that most people in the state wouldn't make it more than a day or two in the swamp without proper gear.
If they wanted to fight in swamps though, they would not make it out alive.
ETA: Just like if they wanted to come up to north LA and fight in the woods, they would have problems too.

I never claimed we would get defeated. Nor did I claim it would be easy for ISIS. I am just casting doubt over the assertions that all 2MM+ Louisiana citizens (A number stated earlier) would pick up arms and start blasting people.
Groupthink, for better or worse, would dictate how this battle would go. History says so.

How long would we last fighting them or do you think we could destroy them to their last man?
WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!
ETA: But in no scenario would I ever see us not getting immediate military support. In fact, they'd never even reach LA shores before getting blasted out of the water IMO.

The war would be won before it begins based on one thing: logistics.
Let's look at what has contributed to ISIS's success in Iraq:
Sympathetic population. They are a Sunni-Muslim group that has been successfully conquering majority Sunni territory while fighting Shiite government forces. The government of Iraq has systematically purged all Sunnis from government offices as well as from the military. The most competent military officers were from the Saddam regime (all of whom were barred from serving under Al-Maliki) and are now siding with ISIS.
Moral. ISIS uses brutality and intimidation to prevent moderate Sunnis from defying them. Given the choice of certain death by ISIS with unemployment and no say in government verses they get to live as Sunnis, they choose life. The military has no moral because all of their officers were purged and they know that not fighting won't get them killed.
Terrain. They have been successful in open, desert, terrain which allows for pickup trucks and armored vehicles to move rapidly on or off road and engage the enemy in "cavalry" skirmishes. There is little cover, except in urban environments.
Organization. They are simply better organized than their rival militants (other than the Kurds whom they have not even dared to pick a fight with) and the Iraqi military is a shitshow.
So, with reflects to fighting in Louisiana:
They would have no sympathetic population, no moral issues to take advantage of, terrain consisting of marsh, swamps, and heavily forested areas restricting mobile warfare to streets and bridges, and only a slight, temporary advantage in organization.
It would be a complete disaster for ISIS in every possible way.
