The good news is there's a guaranteed way to lower the price.. It's called supply and demand.

And the supply won’t be here anytime soon sadly

So many of you may be "experts" and longtime consumers that know everything about the crawfish industry and it's supply and demand principles, but I'll be damed if any of you have a memory at all.
Just last season crawfish were so plentiful that there was a glut on the market weeks before Easter and buyers were putting their producers on a rotation and limiting their harvests to in some cases once a week.
This all occurred in the middle of Lent well before demand and prices generally fall off. The price dropped dramatically during that time and some farmers shut down early due to low price and saturated market conditions.
Everyone complaining not only doesn't grasp the severity of the current situation but conveniently forgets how cheap and available crawfish were less than a year ago and in recent seasons as well.

The price doesn’t go up every year idiot
Maybe try to learn something in this thread that’s full of good info instead of spouting your bull shite

It’s legal to purchase hot crawfish with EBT? I thought it had to be cold It’s not If a place is selling hot boiled crawfish on the ebt card, they can pull their ability to accept it for anything Live crawfish does qualify

There was a EBT hot food waiver during ida as well.
What a joke all of this shite is.

Well said, we’ve gone from one extreme last season being on sack counts per day to another extreme of not having enough crawfish to even open up restaurants locally. Like I said every year is a roller coaster the last 2 years have been a perfect example of that.

If you would have read previous post in this thread, you would’ve saw that last seasons avg price this week was $3lb which would equate to probably $6-$7lb boiled. Educate yourself before you just spew BS. And the historical avg the last decade or so has a price of $2.93 to the farmer

We should never have to pay over $1.00 for a gallon of gasoline or a pound of crawfish.

I found crawfish in my pool after this storm.

Before all the posters in the peanut gallery with reading comprehension problems chime in about how much money farmers make, that's his historical average price for this week. Not a season average price, which for me, usually averages just pennies above $2.00 if I'm lucky and sometimes well under that.

Shrimp are better anyway. Crawfish are a laughable racket.
Same price per lbs., yield rate (meat vs. shell) is better for shrimp and they taste better.

Hehehehe. That price if bought from a wholesale or retail market would put farmers and fishermen getting paid exactly $0 for their buyers to take them off of their hands.

I guess since farmers are so wealthy, they really should have to pay people to take their commodities that they produce.

My historical avg price for the whole season is $1.93lb but that’s over 20 years

It’s all about preference some people like shrimp some people like crawfish hell some people don’t even like seafood

Imagine saying this but also not understanding inflation.
Posted on 1/10/24 at 2:27 pm to Shunface
Inflation is just a fraction of the problem right now. It’s all about supply and demand. Supply at an all time low and demand is high. The biggest problem is there’s just no crawfish. Of course inflation has effected everything in this country, but you really think crawfish prices being over triple what they were last year is because of inflation….idk what to tell you.
