We had two cats get beheaded in my neighborhood, and local animal control said owls will do that. They’ll eat brains as a snack, and apparently some owls have no problems with taking out cats.

Keeping donkeys can really help. They chase the coyotes out of the cow pasture.

Old Jefferson near Baton Rouge... They moved in after the 2016 flood pushed them away from the Amite. Very few stray cats in the neighborhood these days.

The own Mobile, Alabama. Apparently really must be real studs as they eat pussy daily. (Cats and kittens)

I’m pretty sure even Manhattan has coyotes. They are everywhere
Maybe up in Yonkers. The local news videoed a small pack out next to LaGuardia airport. They thought it was so cute.

I think the recent article in the T-P was addressing coyote sighting in LaSalle Park, which for those of you unfamiliar, is east of David Dr and south of Airline, near Zeypher Field. Further south of the park are railyards and industrial area. It's not surprise people are seeing coyotes near here.
Anywhere in the NO Metro area that is near the river batture, and to a lesser extent, the lake levee, should expected to to see coyotes. And nutria, possums, raccoons, etc.
If Glassman is seeing coyotes Uptown, especially if he lives near St Charles Ave and Audubon Park, it doesn't surprise me at all. They're opportunistic bastards.

They will live anywhere there is food
In Westchester County (renown for crazy high taxes), a coyote tried to take a little girl toddler from her front lawn but the older kids saved her. It was rabid.

No the roaming packs of wild donkeys keep them at bay.

Eagles will decapitate things too. I found squirrel heads in my yard years ago for months until I eventually saw a huge bald Eagle in a tree.
Coyotes and foxes have completely adapted to urban environments. They be everywhere now

We've got'em everywhere because of the chicken houses but we kill, on average, over 80 a year and have for years. We have organized night snipes .... season is open on the pigs and them 24/7/365.

They're everywhere. Literally.

I never really worry about the foxes and coyotes, or even dog packs. Death comes silently from above here. We have tons of big hawks and owls. I had a breeding pair of beautiful giant great horned owls in the live oak in my yard. They had two owlings? (If that’s correct term) I used to call to them all the time. Pretty sure that’s the only reason they haven’t eaten my little dog

My sister lives in Rye and had three sons who were about 5 to 10 at the time. About 10 or 12 years ago, there was a "coyote attack", which in reality was probably some mom seeing an overpriced exotic dog off its lease.
Mayhem ensues... The were cops searching the neighborhood, parks, and golf courses. They even put a helicopter up, complete with spotlight at sunset! It was great!
My BIL is from SC and has seen a coyote before. I was visiting and tried to talk some sense into her. Of course, no luck.

Early one morning just before daylight I had taken our little pup, a chihuahua, out. He would always stick close, especially if it was dark(ish), so there was no need for a leash. Anyway? He was in our driveway kind of just down from where we parked the cars. I was standing with a flashlight mless than 10 yards from him when I caught a grey shape out of the corner of my eye moving toward him at a good trot. It didn't register to me exactly what it was until the thing was on my dog. It was a coyote. As it trotted by the pup who noticed him too late it just nonchalantly dipped his head and grabbed the pup in his mouth. I saw it as soon as he did it, and I jumped, yelled, and stomped my feet towards them. The coyote jumped like it was startled and dropped the dog, then took off toward a wood line in the direction it had been traveling. The pup beat me back to the porch and the door. I got him in and checked him over. He had no blood on him or signs of bite marks or broken skin. We kept a watch on him for a day or two, but he was fine.
We figure that the only thing that saved that baw was that the coyote just wasn't hungry. It had probably eaten that night, because there is no way it dropped a sure meal if it hadn't eaten in a while.

They definitely took care of the local squirrel, rat and snake population. I haven’t seen any of them in years.

My Nextdoor had a lady this morning that found her cat's head in her front yard. She checked her Ring footage and saw a coyote carrying the body away.
