Posted this on Tech board but apparently nobody posts there...

Have had cox for years but have noticed that the last few months my speeds are terrible. Uverse has just been made available in my neighborhood so thinking of making a switch.

Paying about $75 with cox and Uverse said if I bundle with my Directv it'd be about $40.

This is for their "internet 12" which they recommended for my needs. Thoughts/suggestions/experiences?

what modem are you running for cox? my speeds have been horrible too. i've been running the piece of shite ubee all in one modem/wireless router and getting 10 mbps down and .5 up. i switched last night to an arris surfboard and a netgear wireless router and got 160 down and 15 up over wifi.

if you are running the same modem i had, make a change.

I've had U-verse, directv, and cox.

Cox is by far the worst in terms of technology, service, and pricing.

I liked directv's service and pricing, almost never lost a signal, but didn't want a dish in the new house. I have U-verse bundle and am happy with it. Was able to sign a 24 month contract WITH 24 month pricing. This is key. I've had a few issues (mainly lines getting cut) but like them.

If you don't mind a dish, I think the directv and U-verse web bundle is what they're pushing and will be most competitive on.

Just dropped Uverse for Xfinity, best thing I have ever done. Uverse consistently pulled less than half of the speed they would advertise.

I've had both. U-verse TV is great, but their internet speeds suck. Do not switch to them thinking you're going to have faster Internet. It's basically DSL vs. cable internet. Cable wins. Switched back to Cox for just that reason - I pay more but it's worth it to me.

We have never had Cox but have heard horror stories about prices. We have had Uverse for 3 years. The internet is okay. Max speed in my neighborhood is 18mbps. Slow but I haven't noticed too much unless I'm streaming HD movies and surfing at the same time. Price wise it's nice. Each year I call and negotiate a lower price when the discount runs out. This year I was straightforward and told them I wanted my same tv and internet bundle for $90. She said no but I kept repeating it. I ended up with a higher tv package and free premium channels for $100.
I recommend Uverse from my experience. I will cancel after this year when we move out of state. Good luck

U verse all day. You won't pay extra to record. You can literally set it up in any room or place that has a regular electrical outlet as long as it's in within range of the modem. No co axial cable needed.

Last month our uverse bill went up to like $260 for Internet, TV, and phone. Said our 2 year introductory deal on the bundle ran out. We bitched and got it to 230 and that's for u450 and 18mbs. Needless to say, we're about to bounce as we're no longer under contract. I'm thinking about cord cutting and getting Internet only but don't know where to start. Uverse is phasing out TV on the next few years anyway.

Supposedly this Uverse they are suggesting has up to 12 MBPS downstream and 1.5 Mbps upstream. I'm mental when it comes to thsi stuff so I assume that's not bad

Also, we plan to put our house on the market within the next year if all goes as planned so this is more of a "save an extra $30/month thing" for us

My uverse was always 5-10MB slower than what I was paying for. I've had it for I guess 5 years now. I got a letter from AT&T stating they had a router upgrade. I got the router from AT&T installed it, and my internet is way faster than what it was before. like 5mb over my cap most of the time when I test. I pay for 24, but i've been testing at anywhere from 28-30 most of the time with the new router.

When we lived in BR we ended up switching from Cox to Uverse. Couldnt have been happier we switched. We live on Nirthshore kow and went with Uverse again and have been pleased for past two years. We havent switched to direct tv though and dont plan to until we are forced to.
