I have Cox and have watched my daughter switch from Cox to Uverse and now to Dish. After seeing their dissatisfaction with all of those and them fixing to switch back to Cox ASAP, I'm glad I stayed with Cox. They cut me a good deal when moving to the new house. Not sure what it will be in 2 years. We'll see.

UVerse cable is superior to Cox. Better channel packaging, included DVR, on demand, and the channels are actually grouped together by genre. I hate how jumbled the channels with Cox is.
Cox does typically have much much better internet in LA if you get your own modem.

Had Cox for years but finally got tired of their arbitrary rate hikes without notice or explanation. I have 5 tvs in my house and with Cox, the main tv in the den was all that had HD and DVR. Switched to UVerse and couldn't be happier! All tvs now have HD and DVR. Haven't noticed a change in internet speed, but we don't stream much. I live in a subdivision in Denham Springs that was very fortunate not to flood. I never lost any services at all, but some of my neighbors who are on Cox, lost all TV and internet for 5 days. I'll NEVER go back to Cox.

I have Uverse TV and internet bundle. Internet speed is fine for me with 24mbps plan. Had it at my current and previous place. No problems gaming online, streaming movies, etc.
If you have kidsin the house that might be downloading or streaming stuff on internet at the same time as you, I'd go with higher plan that 12mbps because you'll probably lag if 2-3 people are streaming at the same time it may lag with only 12mbps.

U-verse internet only gets close to their advertised speed if your house is right next to their router - and don't believe anything they tell you. After months of slow speeds and multiple visits one of their tech guys told me he was surprised we had internet at all, we were so far away.
