Ok, thx. My son lives in Covington and they are hoping to move to Mandeville for more convenience reasons by the time their baby starts school. Their neighbor tells them Covington schools are great and to use them if they don’t move, but she’s a Yankee and doesn’t understand how awful Louisiana schools are. What’s “good” here may still below below par.

Class of 2024:
Mandeville High average ACT - 22.6
Covington High average ACT - 19.4
That is not insignificant

Now do the demographic %s each school enrolls

No it isn’t. Thank you. And I wasn’t intending to be negative to the schools there. I’m on the south shore, a whole different ball game.

Try to think outside the box. There’s so many better options in this country

I live in the pass. Bought my house just for the schools.

Sounds like mandeville comes out ahead either way

Covington, Mandeville
With the construction of the Causeway professionals (oil company engineers, airline pilots) moved to Mandeville. They were highly educated and placed a high priority on their children's education … which translated into better schools and still does today.
Perhaps 1/3 of Covington's parents place a similar high priority. 1/3 of the school population is from the historically Black and impoverished community. The last 1/3 comes from the agriculture based area in the northern part of the Parish. In general neither of the last two groups were as focused as were the professionals. That said, Some of the smartest attorneys, accountants and engineers I know attended Covington High. However, it doesn't apply to the whole school population.
If you're making your decision based on your children's education (and that's a good thing) then Mandeville is your LA choice. You will pay more for less house to be in that area.
Now, regarding Covington, it is one of the coolest cities in the northern hemisphere: Centuries of history, incredible cuisine and wonderful live music (over 100 free musical acts per year) … and the mayor is nothing short of spectacular
Best of Luck

Would you send your kids to Covington public schools today?

Which of these 3 offer a combination of: good public schools, low crime, lowest COL, and family friendly.
We’re not OT ballers so private school ain’t happening. Public schools is what we are eyeing.

Elaborate on this thought

In a heartbeat

Maybe being around people that don't look or talk like you builds character. Possibly this would result in less Braxtons running around Stone Creek after school, showing up in their 2023 F150 Platinums.

I just spent Thanksgiving in Old Covington (Janke Road Old Landing Area), it’s really nice.

Thank you. Hopefully it will still be quality when my grandson starts school. But he’s not even a year old yet.

Are you a ridger or do you live down by the Snoq River?

I live five minutes away from madisonville elementary. If old man winter doesn’t have these fricking midge flys out of my life within a couple weeks I’m putting this one on the market. Priced to sell.

The Coast: Long Beach, Pass Christian, and Ocean Springs (although parts of Ocean Springs are starting to get a little sketch).
