Yup. This is literally not even a bad cold like toddlers keep half the year. She has a very non offensive cough, and it happens maybe 1-2/hour. Not even a runny nose. No fever. This would be a joke of a post if it weren’t for the Karen’s such as Tigergirl that will freak out over everything. Accusing me of sending my child to school when miserable and sick. Give me a break. If anything, I’m the over zealous mother who takes my kids to the doctor too often. And even I think nothing of this if it weren’t for the time we are living in.

Learn to be a real parent and try the lost art of letting your TODDLER stay home while you, wait for it.... take care of her, instead of taking the easy route and pawning her off on someone else.

too many kids in daycare. It’s pathetic

They sean the nose. They should only disqualify your id based on temp, not a simple
Cough

Preach.

Should have known better.

Just imagine if we go to doctor tomorrow. She will be playing all day, happy as can be besides a cough. But I won’t be able to send her all week because if I do, I’m the a-hole who sent their child knowing “she could have covid”, which also means I had to keep my son home all week because “what If his sister has covid and I didn’t protect everyone?!!”... it’ll take all week to get the negative result and I’ve successfully had to cancel my entire week of work, for a child who has a cough/allergies at best, and a cold at worst. It’s just fricking ridiculous. Can’t wait to see what happens when we actually hit cold and flu season.

Do you think I otherwise sit at home all day with my feet up because I don’t want to “take care” of my children? Dumbass.

fyi, have 2 in daycare now and if there's a hint of any symptoms, they're requiring them to stay home until they get tested and not able to return until a negative test is proven.

So if I were in your shoes, I'd keep them home, call the doc just to see about getting tested and just go through with testing. If they're negative, then they go back, if positive, well you know the answer

It may be nothing at all, but in this environment, you'll have to go the extra step.

We've had a few covid scares at the daycare here but they have come and gone, we sent them back in May since I'm not able to do any work while they're home. It's worked out well so far but I just know these scares will keep popping up from time to time, just gotta deal with it.

The Egg? I had no idea you had kids! Thanks for the nose sane, rational post in two pages. Guess we will be at the doctor tomorrow. I just wish it wasn’t taking them 4-5 days around here for results. Would be no big thing if it were quick as a flu or strep swab.

My 7 month old just read this thread and asked me why the big kid was not wearing a mask.

I'm not sure how to answer.

You are in the middle of a pandemic, any child, parent or alien who is coughing or showing other symptoms should be kept home until the symptoms subside.

Personally I’d wait a little bit until you see more symptoms such as loss of appetie

Our pediatrician works with a lab that gets results back in around 24-36 hrs, for better or worse, so I guess that's a good thing for us.

Your kid will fricking hate the swab, fyi, be ready for the tears

I’m sitting here anxious AF about it. I know I’ll need to bring my 7 year old in, too, to be tested. He freaks out about a flu swab for some reason, so I cannot even envision them putting that up his nose on each side. I and another nurse had to physically restrain Him when he got his last flu swab. If his sister sees that, she will go insane. Or, if he sees her get it first, then he will literally lose it before his swab.

I may have to figure out a way to bring them separately.

I’m for opening up schools, but this is the stuff they’re going to have to figure out. They can’t send home every kid with a cough and runny nose, especially after they’ve all been locked down at home for 5 months and are then getting thrown in the middle of a bunch of other little kids. My kids have been out of daycare since March, and they are currently the healthiest they’ve ever been. Not one runny nose, ear infection, etc... I know when they go back it’s going to be like a bomb hits their immune system, and I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of people who treat every instance of little kid crud like possible Covid.

Call & see how far they do the swab
If it’s the one that’s not too far start playing it up as a nose tickle
Or explain & see if the nurse can watch one while the other gets the swab

Good luck

Viral swabs are in the nasal cavity and bacterial swabs are in the throat. So the flu and the covid swab should be the same.
